FOX ON ROCKS? FOX ON TREES?

I am happy to tell you that I have only one of the five quilts left to bind.  It is a bugger, will try to finish it today.

Unfortunately, I am only able to show you two of the quilts.

Here is one of them.

         I am not much of a red person but I like how the border just fits right in with all of the foxes.

You do know if you are SHORT, that it stinks to be SHORT????

I had to go and get my step stool and carry it around with me while trying to decide how to takes photos of this quilt.

When I was making the Fancy Forest quilt I said to myself after making the fox block that one day I was going to make a fox quilt.  I am so thrilled with how it turned out. 

I used Island Batik scraps (again)......   You just need 2 1/2" x 18" for the actual fox, the black and white fabric don't take much either.  Trust me when I tell you that I had left over bindings that worked great, left over scraps large enough to cut down to 2 1/2"....

I used Aurifil Grey, White, and Red 50 weight threads.  I do get thread in my box from Island Batik but I also buy a lot from Hancock's of Paducah or on amazon.  I am trying to get a stash up but in the last few weeks I have gone through one spool of grey and have almost used up a spool of off white and I call it a light yellow brown  # 2310...  Oh well...I do know how to order online, much to my husband's dismay.

These last few weeks have been so fun in my sewing room.  It is not often I can just spend a lot of time in there.  I am trying to get all five of these quilts finished before I move on to other projects.  I am dying to do the Ocean by Elizabeth Hartman, I have an idea for my Sept challenge with Island Batik, well...you know...more projects you want to do than have time for.

What is wrong with me?

Two post in two days?

Here is one of the five quilts that needed to have a binding put on.

                             Today I got three of the five quilts all done.  YEA ME!!!

Don't you just love this quilt?  I know I do.  I love Elizabeth Hartman's Patterns.  This one is called Fancy Forest which I purchased on amazon.   I recently purchased her Ocean pattern as well.  I am not good with small pieces but I confess I think I am getting better.

She gives very detailed directions.  At first you look at her patterns and go..OH NO>>> I am not doing that.  But she breaks it down to where it is doable.

I used Flea Market by Island Batik, and Aurifil #2835 thread.

I had planned this to be Septembers Island Batik Challenge but it didn't fit within the rules so...I just finished it anyways.  My daughter in Law saw it and said with much enthusiasm that she wanted me to make her a quilt just like this one.  Well...how could I refuse her this one.  I am going to pet it a while before I give it to her.


Just call me a fabricfile....ha ha...

I still had a lot of half squares left over but you will have to wait to see what I did with them.

It seems that this quilt just kept growing and growing.

As I was trying to get a backing for it, cut the batting, pin it...Oh my stinking gosh

I was thinking....How did I let this quilt get this big???

It is 80" x 92"

Then after I got it all pinned, I thought....NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE TO 

 QUILT IT!!!!

My long arm is indisposed for now, it is backed against a wall and I can not get to it due to the lodgers in my sewing room.

No worries.....many moons ago I quilted a king size quilt on my domestic machine....I can do this one.

                                        

                                                    Stuff and fluff....stuff and fluff

Took me most of the day to do this quilt.  I would do a row and then go do something else.  I worked in 4" segments and I just did a meandering stitch.  My aurifil thread hung in there, no breakage and I used most of my spool up between this quilt and another one.

I will show you the end results when I get the binding on.

Now I have five quilts to bind.  YEA ME!!!

Notice the grey fabric, that is the only one that is not Island Batik!  Yes, I can use fabric other than Island Batik but I so enjoy using batiks, always have even before I became an ambassador for Island Batik.

I remember when we lived in Samoa when my husband would go off island he would bring me home yards of batiks.  Couldn't get enough of them and I am still the same way.  The brighter the better.

So much has been going on in my home.  Besides having lodgers my husband decided to come out of retirement and then he decided that what he wanted to do was not all that great so he is now in retirement again.  Allergies are horrible for me, my little grandson was sneezing all day today.  I believe we both took turns in the sneezing department.  Poor us.  We did manage to make a pan of brownies during the sneezing....I had to wash a bowl that he sneezed into but we made it through all of that.  Every once in a while I would see his little finger go in the batter, you can't help but laugh.

                         It is Island Batik Delivery Day!!!

Are you excited as I am?

I don't know if any of you saw my post on facebook, but Wednesday the UPS person just kinda threw out my box (not this one).  They were kind enough to wrap it in plastic.

Then our dog peed on it...Ha Ha...glad it was in plastic.

Who ever it is is afraid of our dog.  He is a blue heeler but harmless as a pussy cat.  He just puts on a big show.  We even had boxes put on the stump of a tree out by our drive.

So today they at least got it on the carport.  Here it was waiting for me.

So...here we go...lots and lots of Island Batik Goodies.

Here are two Island Batik foundation bundles/ 8 half yard cuts.

Here they are spread out for you.  Ummm Ummmmmmm good.

This is called Kaleidoscope.  Two 2 yard cuts with the 10" squares (42 each)

Oh boy....Island Batik sure knows that I love color....I am so excited.

This next is Islander Batiks 2 inch strips with two 2 yard coordinating fabrics.

I was fortunate to meet Ebony in Nebraska a few years back.  She is very knowledgeable and a ton of fun.  This next bundle is called Primo by Ebony Love.

Here is the Primo line all laid out for you.

Talk about eye popping candy, you have it here. 

Four yard cuts of black, grey, and white fabric.  Gotta love this, I see another black and gray table topper in my future.

Neutral Fabric, 4 yards.  As far as I am concerned, you can never have enough neutral fabrics or the black, white, and grey.

Here is the Accuquilt Die "Bear Paws"

I was so happy to get this die, was kinda worried I would get something I already had.  

Oh boy, my mind is already working up ideas.

Some Aurifil Threads

Aurifil 50/20 # 2130 (my favorite color, I have gone through several of these), and # 2720.

Not only do I enjoy getting thread in these boxes but I also enjoy collecting Aurifil thread.  One of my favorite places to go is Hancock of Paducah.  If my husband is reading this, he will now know what all those charges are for.  I also love their collection of Island Batik fabrics.

DREAM, CREATE, INSPIRE - Artsy Fartsy Challenge

I had actually picked out the theme of my quilt several months ago.

I searched my mind and the internet for an idea for a house for my Bejeweled Sewing room.

Then one day it hit me.  My idea of retirement, happiness, freedom is on a beach, living in a hut.

Sometimes a gal has just gotta dream!

One of my most happy times was the three years we spent in Amerika Samoa and three years on the island of Oahu.

I have said this a thousand times "I am an island girl!"

So this month's challenge is to create a project using three different weights of Aurifil threads.

What inspires me?

Color, beauty of this world, friends, and having the right tools.

I love this quote and when I think of the Islands, the joy still lives in my heart.

As I think of quilts, the beauty  just lives on forever and if we care for them they will live long after we are gone.

The orange is Aurifil  40 wt. and the cone is  Aurifil 50 wt. (notice I am almost out).

I decided to use Hobbs batting logos for my clouds.

I should have picked a darker thread for my Bejeweled Quilts but in person it is darker.

Isn't it amazing that Island Batik can find you anywhere?

Even on a small island out in the pacific!

So if you were stranded on a deserted island, what would  you most want to have besides food?

What about a sewing machine (the machine had to go in front of the window)?  A package from Island Batik?  Aurifil Threads?  Notice the Accuquilt Go cutter?  Hobbs batting?

If you look close enough at the top shelf, that is a picture of my last Island Batik box....ummm ummmm good.

Aurifil 28 wt. thread

I have to tell ya, I am in love with the 28 wt. thread, it is great for machine applique.  I see a collection coming on.

I used Hobbs 80/20 cotton batting.  Notice how the wrapping is all messed up (that was me cutting out the logos for my clouds).

I used Avery Fabric Transfers, which was a breeze compared to what I had originally.

I have enjoyed being an Ambassador, as I was trying to find some of my favorite quilts to put on this quilt, I was amazed at how many projects I have completed in the past 4 1/2 years.

Many of the quilts I still have, a few I have sold (but not many), gave some to friends and family. and charities.

I look forward to putting this quilt on my sewing room wall.

It is fun to create when you have such wonderful tools to work with.

Island Batik fabric inspires me with the vibrant colors along with the Aurifil threads.

The Accuquilt Go is an amazing tool that makes life less complicated and the cutting process to go a lot faster.

Hobbs batting is just a dream in the clouds.
