SMORGASBOARD

I love love love hand towels.  I have two overflowing drawers of hand towels (no, I am not ashamed).

All but one have something on them.

I can not have enough of them.

Yes, I am addicted and many times I have to talk myself out of making myself more.

But these you see below were given to me by my daughter in law Mayra and my grandson Matty when they were visiting.

I would hang them up on the oven handle but someone will use them.

I guess I am not ready yet.

Still at the petting stage.

I am still plugging away at the paper piecing above with an undisclosed amount that I need to do.

The quilt is in the planning stage (not to worry, this Island Batik project is not due til October).  Once I get the 150 I need to make each block, I will have to recalculate for the sashing and borders if that is what I chose to do......all in good time.

All in good time.

Next month, which is right around the corner (time goes way to fast), The Island Batik Ambassadors are having a blog hop and giving away fun prizes.  I have yet decided what I am going to do.

MEMORY PUPPIES

Looking at this now, this does not look like a very good picture but I am tooo lazy to go back and do another.

These puppies are for a baby shower, the mother just lost her dad about three months ago.  One is for the son she has and one is for the daughter she is having.

LIFE JUST HAPPENS

Sometimes I long for the days of Samoa.  It seems that  life moved slower there.

Sometimes I just want to jump off the merry go round and let it spin without me.

Fat chance...right?????

So..................when I have time to sew I go all in.

This was last week-end....oh boy....it was fabulous.

Image may contain: 2 people, tree, child, outdoor and nature

There is no sewing this week-end, we have our one grandson.  He is so fun and so adorable that it takes the sting out of not sewing.

Then when night comes, this gal is too pooped to do much.

I will show you what I have been doing in the early hours of the morning.

You see this beautiful fabric???  "Dear William" by Island Batik.

Isn't it just lovely???

In October we have a paper piecing challenge.

We all know that I am an applique kind of gal but hey, I can do other things.

I think????

I searched my quilting books, the internet, and asked my sister if I could borrow anything she had in paper piecing.

I thought I had something but then, it came to me.

I can create my own paper piecing pattern.

So here is a sneak peak.

yes that is all you get for now.

I have about 300 of these to make.  Ok, I didn't count because I don't really know how many I will need, so far 150 but I am not done yet, the quilt is taking a life of it's own.

I have some more paper piecing done besides these but this is all I am going to show you.  You can call me mean or what ever you want...I probably have been called worse.

I get up between 4:30 and 6:00 and get busy and then when the house wakes up I stop.

Hope you all are having an amazing week-end and staying cool, it was 105 today.

We take our little grandson out in the early morning, wear him out til about eleven and then it is indoor time for us.

PEEK-A-BOO

As most of you know, I am an Island Batik Ambassador and twice a year we get a package in the mail.

OH MY STINKING GOSH!!!!
I think they keep getting better and better.

So here is a little peek.....

The first package is a surprise package, which we can not show til January.

Let me tell you that this little Surprise package is AWESOME!!!

Batik Foundation Bundle and the top one "Check it out" yardage....

Dear William....oh my my.....

Neutral fabrics!!

Island Stacks

"All a Flutter"

and "Paisley Dots"

Batting.  I have to tell you that I have tried the Hobbs Batting and I really like it.

I recently used the Hobbs light and it truly does make a light quilt, great for a Spring Quilt.

Aurifil threads - love  Aurifil threads.

I am getting quite the collection of Aurifil Threads, not only though Island Batik packages but also
by ordering them at Missouri Star Quilt Company.  It is one thing to get something for nothing but to love it so much that I keep ordering them is another.

Thanks Island Batik for all the fabulous fabric, batting and threads.

Here is a little peek at what I did today.

Our second grandson is coming for a visit and thought he needed his own quilt.

IT IS SCRAPPY TIME!!!

I truly had a fun fun day in my sewing room.

This morning as I was visiting my mother (she is in assisted living) she did not seem very happy at all.

When I came home I had some free time (a miracle), so I decided to make a door hanging for her.  Everyone at this Assisted Living home has something on their doors.  I have taken it upon my self to keep my mother's door decorated with wall hangings.

This is what I came up with today.  Oh what fun I had, I don't think I have had this much fun in a long time.

I knew I wanted to do a flamingo, my mother loves flamingos.  I knew I wanted to use my Island Batik Fabric scraps.  The only thing that is not from Island Batik is the binding.

I went to the computer and typed in cartoon flamingos.  I searched until I found the one I wanted.

Once I had it printed out, I cut it in fourths and cut all the excess paper off.  Then I resized it to fit the full page.  Then I cut that one in fourths....I did this three times until I got what I wanted.

I decided to add a little humor to the wall hanging.

Here is hoping that it puts a smile on her face and all the other residents there.

PATTERN PLAY, SECONDARY PATTERN CHALLENGE

If it wasn't for Island Batik Challenges, I don't think I would be posting but once every quarter.

                                     Life Happens

I have to be honest here, I am doing some things that I can't show but in the same breath my house seems like a hotel.  I no sooner have one guest leave than another one comes.  Nope...not complaining but my door is revolving.  I guess that is one of the perks of having five sons, there is always one coming in the door but so glad they like coming home.  I have one son that gives me a list of food he wants me to cook...so maybe it is not me but my cooking????

That being said, as you see up above the Island Batik Challenge is pattern play, secondary pattern challenge.  Like a block in a block, or you get two different patterns from one.

Here is mine.

                                         DOUBLE DRESDEN DELIGHT
                                                           BY:  Happy Quilting

.                             You can find her wonderful tutorial here:  Double Dresden Delight

                                                                  Here is mine

                                                                   Just a tad different

Mine is a little bigger.  I added another half dresden and the circles in the middle.
I took a vote of six people asking them with the circle or without and only one said without...so the withs won.!!!!!

I did not have any background fabric so I hit my Island Batik stash for neutrals and just pieced together the background.

I used the Foundation Bundle that was sent in the last box with maybe a few extra fabrics.

We all know I am a woman of color and that foundation bundle just hit me right in the heart.

I quilted it on my domestic machine.  I had wanted to hand quilt it but was not able to find a needle that would do the job.  Any suggestions in that area would be appreciated.

I used Aurifil thread #2092, it is a light green, you can barely see it.  I was going to do it in red but I am not a huge fan of red but I am of green.

Below if a list of all of the awesome Island Batik Ambassadors, check out their blog for last months challenge, you will not be disappointed.
