PREROGATIVE!!!

I had a friend contact me several weeks ago about a quilt, she showed me a picture and asked if I could help her make it.  So...we discussed the pattern and the amount of fabrics we need.

As I was searching for a Basket pattern (more on that later) I came across the pattern in a notebook of collected patterns.  What luck!!!

So I had a layer cake...added a few fabrics and this is what I came up with.

Now when I say this I don't want to upset anyone but....don't send the fabric police but my layer cake was not cut all the same.  Some squares were lopsided, some not the full 10" (decided not to reveal the name of the layer cake).

Sorry....I am just saying that it made some squares hard.  I know...whaaaaaa poor me. (smiling)

So today I wanted to make some Easter Baskets and that is when I came across the above pattern (yes, got sidetracked)...it is a girls prerogative to change her mind!!!
Well...I did not want a basket this big so I am in the quest for smaller ones...I just might make my own...I can do that....and that is the prerogative word again.

I wanted to make an Easter Wall Hanging and so I made me some PEEPS and put them in an unbrella...and what baskets does not like chocolate?  Gotta have Chocolate.

Here is a little mug rug to match!!

Oh, Barb! I'm smiling to myself. You can change your mind as often as you wish if you come up with those cute little quilts. I just love them!

You're so right, you can change your mind as often as you like. I have heard before about some Moda pre-cuts not being quite as accurate as they should, but I've never experienced it myself. I love your wallhanging, but the mug rug is what really caught my eye, it's just so gorgeous.

I really understand about the Layer Cake. I bought a "jelly roll" (not Moda, but another well respected brand) and the strips were not all straight. After struggling to make it work, I decided that I might as well cut my own from yardage even if my cutting (at the time) wasn't great.

I'm glad to know I"m not the only one having difficulties with precuts. You never hear anyone mention it, though!

adorable stuff! I really love that basket, how did you make it?

First let me say, Barb, you are so very creative. I'm sure you will make a great smaller basket.
Now, I just read your previous post about the "Window"......the open and shut thing between hubby and you nearly made me snort my coffee out of my nose. You are too funny but I do agree with you about privacy.....a girl's got to have it. I'm definitely on your side with that one.
Take care.

Changing mind mid-stream is how we create UFOs, and we all do it! Is there a basket pattern somewhere? Loving that!

You are just so, so clever. Love all your Easter goodies. I recently had the same problem with a pack of 10" squares. Only, I didn't discover until I had already sashed them. I made the assumption that they would all be the same size. NOT! I don't even know the brand because I had gotten rid of the wrapper before I discovered. Grrr

I, too, have had some problems with pre-cuts and heard of others having issues. So far the companies were Hoffman, Marcus Brothers, and Moda. The worst issue I found was a jelly roll where many of the strips were not cut on the grain and therefore had that dreaded bow on the fold of the strip. That same roll had atleast 6 to 8 strips where the selvage ends were totally 'off'. They veered from a straight line to as much as 3/4" at the selvage. Honestly, my 10 year old granddaughter can cut better than that!!! I wrote to the online store where I'd purchased the roll from and sent pictures of the mess! They were understanding and said Marcus Brothers had become aware of the problem and offered me the roll at about half off; I accepted their offer. Now I've had second thoughts because the quilt top just never has lain properly. That was the worst issue I've had. Truly, if companies are going to offer pre-cuts, they should definitely be cut properly. I mean, we pay MORE for them to cut the fabric rather than doing it outselves.

Oh I have had that with some older jelly rolls, I haven't purchased any lately, but I have been pretty lucky with my charm squares. Your quilt is lovely, and the wall hanging is so cute! I love peeps -not to eat them.

I had some problems with Moda charm packs being cut undersized and off grain.

I have the same problem with fat quarters. If the shop doesn't make sure the selvages are even when they cut them then you can end up shorted. I found this out when I make a pattern that called for a mixture of 18 fat quarters. There's a shop in town (name withheld) that is famous for shorting you. As a result I no longer buy fat quarters but a buy a full 1/2 yard of what I need. A little extra fabric never hurts a girl...right?! The wall hanging and mug rug are too cute! Wish I had 1/10 of your creativity!! Keep it up!
