CURVALICIOUS QUILTS - ISLAND BATIK CHARM PACK AND SUPERIOR THREAD GIVEAWAY

The month of June is Curvavalicious Quilts for the Island Batik Ambassadors.

We were told we could do anything with curves so here goes.

For those of you that don't know, Jeanette, from Inchworm Fabrics is my sister.

Recently we moved our mother into a little trailer right off my carport so Jeanette came for a visit.

Glad she did because she was able to go through and get rid of a lot of clothes that my mother had collected through the years.

Anyways.....

We had discussed making something together for our June Island Batik project.

You know...two minds, twice the smoke.

She came up with the idea of tuffets.

How exciting....

for me it was...

So we scoured the internet and settled upon "Mini Tuffet Pinchsion" by Sew Colorful LLC, Sylvi Sealy.   just click on that link and it will take you to her craftsy site.

Oh yessssssssssssss

One evening Jeanette came in from my mother's and said...you wanna go to walmart and get supplies for the tuffets?  I said, sure...what time is it.  She said 7:30....why not, it is early still.

We got home at 11:30.....hummmmm  I said...Jeanette, thought it was 7:30 when we left...she looked at her watch and said...yes, 7:30 my time (Washington State time).  Needlesss to say we got a laugh out of that one.

  So we took off with our supply list.

We were able to get everything we wanted at Walmart to make small and larger tuffets.

 

Here is a larger one.  Jeanette is so smart...she just whipped up another pattern larger than the one given to us that enabled us to make us a larger tuffet.  Worked out great.

We made the larger ones the next day while my grandson was running around the sewing room getting into stuff.  Were we crazy or what?

My mother did entertain the little buggar for us so we could finish up a few more.

Every so often he would come and go UP...Up...so of course, up he came and the work stopped.

                                                     Have you ever seen such a fun sight?

                                       She did the sewing and I did the stuffing, cutting, and gluing.

One thing that worked out good was making cardboard round pieces that matched the wooden pieces for the bottom.  We glued the fabric to the cardboard round piece, put the button on and and pulled it through,  then glued the wood circle over that so we could glue on the legs.  Worked perfect!

   I can only say how fun this was working with my sister and how clear the pattern was to follow.

                                   We gave one large one to our sister Beverly, it was her birthday.
                          Gave one small one to my mother and then we both got a large and small one.

                           This is what mine looks like right now..... No losing this pin cushion.

I do love Superior Threads, I have used them numerous times and have even ordered from them, I just happen to have duplicate of the orange thread because I loved the Fantastico line so much that I ordered me some and then Island Batik sent me some of the same not knowing.

Now the Charm pack is loaded with vibrant delicious colors, if you can put delicious onto a charm pack?  Only a quilter will know and understand that comment.

                                I actually had the design all laid out and blanket stitched on before I saw this cute                                                            young lady with her amazing picture.  (friends of the family)

I said to myself that I wish I had seen this before I did my design for the month.  Then.....I thought

                                                                 Why can't you do two?

                                                                  Life began to happen
                                                                   so I gave up on the idea....

                                                              Until a little window opened up

                                                              and gave me time.

                                         Here is my interpretation of her picture. (sorry about the upside down
                                                       Picture).

I am just waiting to put the binding on but can't decide what color.

Now you can not appreciate this picture unless you see it up close because

it is just a fun fun little quilt. 41" x 41".

I do hope that she will like it.

ANTIQUE QUILT TOP and another top finished

If you saw the post below, you will know that I was auditioning border fabric.

I chose none of them.  I chose a fabric that would match the middle circle.

I wish you could see it up close, the colors are muted in this picture.  I really do love this.

I had acutally thought I would put pink circles in between the sashings but I am kinda liking it how it is.

Next is a quilt I started in Amerika Samoa.  It is funny how you really like something and then take it out years later and your taste has changed.

                    Very very busy quilt.  I was going to put a green border between the top and the border but I knew that if I spent time trying to match fabrics that I would just put the quilt away again....  I put caution to the wind and just put the border on and called it done.

This quilt I just go..."INTERESTING".....  Do I love it like I did in Samoa, NO but it draws me in.

ANTIQUE SQUARES

I don't know if any of you have been following my post since we moved into this house.

At the risk of repeating myself, when we moved in this house the people before us left us an attic, huge room, and out buildings with all of their stuff in it.

We waited months before we dove into them giving the previous owners time to come and get what they wanted.  They never came and my husband got tired of asking them.

So in the attic were a lot of quilt squares.

I gave some to my sisters and mother but kept these:

There were forty of these but my one sister, Jeanette, just came for a visit and we split them up.

So...............I took mine and got some iron on "lite" interfacing. 

 I place the right side to the iron on side of the interfacing and sewed all around the circle.  

Then  made a split in the back of the iron on and pulled the circle to the right side out.  Does that make sense.

Next I ironed the circle to a 10 1/2" beige fabric as shown below. 

Then I blanket stitched around the first one.

              Didn't like that so the next one I just took a very scant 1/4" top stitch around the circle.

                           I liked the top stitched one better so now, I have 20 circles all top stitched.

                                      The next issue is finding some old fabric that might work.

                                                               Here are a few of my choices.

FUNKY FRIENDS AND ISLAND BATIK

A while back of few of us Island Batik Ambassadors were asked to make some funky friends with the Spring/Summer Collection for the St. Louis, Mo, Quilt Market.

Now I must confess, I nabbed these off of facebook because for the life of me I can not find my pictures of the ones I made.

So here goes.

Here are some funky gecko's chilling at the Island Batik Booth.

Can't seem to find the elephant I did....I am sure he is in there hiding somewhere.

Now these Funky Friends are not for the faint of heart, she might have some beginner patterns.

She has some amazing patterns as well as a few free ones.  She provides tutorials for those of us that need a little extra help.  I find that my biggest problem were that my fingers were not small enough.

This month I have been working on some more funky friends for Fall market.  I seek perfection but rarely obtain it....so I keep trying.

MODERN BATIK CHALLENGE - What is your favorite Thread?

                                          

I must confess that I am not the modern kind of gal, I am country at best.  These modern challenges are hard for me but they do stretch my imagination so that part I do like.  I hope you all get a chance to go over and see all of the fabulous designs the Island Batik ambassadors have made.  If you look at the post below this one, there is a list for you.

So......drum roll....

Here is my modern design for this month.

I used all Island Batik Fabrics except for the binding.

I used Aurifil thread  #5001 for the blanket stitching.   Have any of you used Aurifil threads before?

What is your favorite thread?

I do love the Aurifil threads, the threads that were sent to me by Island Batik are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome.

As you can see a lot of them are still in the wrapper.....why?  I am waiting for a special project to use them on.  

Here is some Superior Threads......  Now I love these threads as well.

I love the Fantastico line for sure,  I did a project using that line of thread and loved it so much that I went on their website and ordered me some more....these that you see here were sent to me by Island Batik.  Superior Threads sends out a newsletter giving you all kinds of useful information about needles and threads as well.

I had used Connecting Threads for a long time and loved how sturdy it was to quilt with, very little needle breakage but a lot of fuzz on the needle and in the bobbin casing.

I use Sulky, Gutermann, Coats & Clark, and Needle Art for my embroidery machine.  I have used Superior Threads on my embroidery machine as well and it worked our really nice.

So, my question to you is what is your most favorite thread?  Is there one that you like that is not listed here?
