SLANTED HALF HEX QUILT WITH JENN!Y

When I saw this tutorial I just had to do this quilt.  I have the larger hex template but I thought I would use the smaller one to use up some of my Island Batik Scraps (joke is on me, they keep multiplying).

This is my little container after I cut my half hexies.

Here is my quilt.

I decided not to make it too large because I know my time constraints and I did not want another UFO.

The border Island Batik fabric I ordered at Missouri Star Quilt company...no, I am not affiliated with them in any way just love their fast delivery and awesome prices.

I worked on it off and on all day yesterday in between dishes, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping etc.

I had a hard time figuring out how many hexies I needed for each row.  Since it was on a slant my mind was not able to see it.  To solve this problem I just drew a line down each side as I did a new row.  There is some waste and to be honest, I enjoyed making this quilt but doubt I will make another, too complicated when it came to adding rows and cutting, at least for my small brain.

YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING PHOTO BOMBED WITH A BOX OF FABRIC FROM ISLAND BATIK

As most of you know, I am an Island Batik Ambassador.  Every six months they send their Ambassadors a box of goodies.  We are to create and share what we make on a monthly basis.

This is my fourth year as an ambassador, which is hard to believe.

I have enjoyed it so much.  Sometimes I get a little stressed with life happenings but Island Batik stretches me in ways I would not otherwise be.

Needless to say I have been ill but that did not stop me from answering the door with no make-up, bed head, and I won't tell you what I was wearing.  Our Fed Ex person is a woman so I didn't mind too much.

Ooopsss we have something peaking out.

Here is the surprise fabrics....ummm ummmm good.  Can't show you till the designated time.
I

Oh my gosh......

The yellow is a rayon scarf....and the blue is some rayon fabric....so beautiful.

Can always use some neutral fabric (notice 3 yards...holy cow).

I love these  Paisley dot fabric, in fact, I am using this for our March theme.  Oh yessssssss....gotta love dots!

Here are some 5" strips, I have so enjoyed these in the past.

This is called Mountain Majesty, just look at those yummy fabrics.

Aurifil threads.  I have said and I have heard others comment that
Aurifil threads create less lint than most threads.  Gotta love
their brilliant colors.  Can I say that I am in Heaven.

This brochure from Aurifil is full of information about what needle to use with which threads and has a chart in the back telling you which threads to use for what purpose.

I am not familiar with Hobbs batting but am excited to use it and will be
happy to tell you of my experience.
The catalog is full of batting samples, their standard line and Tuscany Collection, along with a chart on the back telling you what batting to use and how it will perform for the purpose you are using it for..  It is interesting to read about each different batting.

Now if this box doesn't make a gal feel better, I don't know what will.

Since the addition of our little great-nephew, I can certainly understand the pitter patter with your grandsons. Aren't they just the greatest?! And I get to have him in my life fairly often - so blessed. Your wall hanging is so darn cute! I love the arrow pointing to the heart. ~smile~ Roseanne

"PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR QUILT" BLOG HOP

Thank so much Carol for heading this awesome blog hop.

I knew immediately what I was going to do and what fabric I was going to use.

It is probably not a mystery to any of you that I am using Island Batik fabrics.  I decided to use my purple scraps.

This sweet quilt is by Lyn Steinmetz from Marshfield, Wisconsin which I found in the Quiltmaker magazine.  Sorry I can not tell you the year.

As you can see I am using my awesome Island Batik Fabrics.

This pattern spoke to me when I first saw it.  I didn't have any grandbabies at the time but knew if I did that they would always be in my heart which I can tell you now that I have three grandsons that  definitely makes my heart go pitter patter.

Here is my finished quilt....you would think I could take a straight picture.

I just love this quilt design and I do love it in purple for sure.

Thanks for coming by.

Those who came to my Heart Attack week are probably sick of these patterns or maybe you didn't  win anything and want to try your hand at it again????

I will give one pattern of each design below away, international bloggers are welcomed because they are PDF.  Just say which one you would like.

SCRAPPING IT!!! SMALL TWIST TO THE JELLY ROLL RACE QUILT.

In August (post is here) I ironed all of my Island Batik Scraps

That is when I got the idea to do a Jelly roll race quilt, you can see a demo here.

I had so many strips, some 2 1/2" and some bigger.  I just cut the bigger ones down.

Here is my jelly roll race quilt with a small twist.

65" x 76 1/2"

I had oodles of 2 1/2" squares and so I would randomly put them in.  I actually like it and wish I had added more.

I truly enjoyed quilting this quilt.  I loved seeing all of the Island Batik fabrics.  Three years worth of gorgeous fabrics.

FREE TUTORIAL ON HOW TO MAKE A PINWHEEL OUT OF THE SUN BONNET SUE Dress USING YOUR ACCUQUILT GO CUTTER.

This month's theme for Island Batik Ambassadors is:

What a fun theme this month.

                                                    Who doesn't love babies?

                                                 Who doesn't love baby quilts?

and using the Island Batik Fabrics??

                                                           Accuquilt Go cutter?

                                                     What a combo, what fun!!

                                                  enough of the hype...already!

This is my baby quilt for the Month of July, using my Island Batik scraps and my sun bonnet Sue die.

                                                       ---------------------------------

You need about a 10" square of fabric (preferably Island Batik) (shamelessly smiling here).    Put your fabric adhesive of choice on the wrong side of fabric.

                                                                            Fold it in half.

                                                               Fold in half again.

Then you take the folded edge as you see above and place  it between the top of the Sun Bonnet Sue Dress.  Cut...

This is what you get.  Iron on to ten inch square and blanket stitch down.  You will need nine of these.

Now you can put a small circle in the middle of the pinwheel or leave it alone as I have done.

Then I took the cut out and placed it on my printer at 45% to get the smaller pinwheel.  You will need 28 of these (sorry, you have to cut these out by hand, be sure to put your fabric adhesive on the back before cutting out).

You will need six 10" x  3" for the sashings between the rows.
As you can see, you have three pinwheel rows with a sashing between the three squares in each row.
Next you will measure your rows and come up with the length you need for the sashing going across.

You will need Two  28 1/2" x 3" for the sashings going across (your measurement might be different).

For the first border you will need two 1 1/2" strips measuring 28 1/2" for the top and bottom,
29 1/2" for the sides.
The last border 4" x 29 1/2" for the top and bottom,
4" x 33" for the sides (remember to always measure your quilt from top to bottom for the side borders and across from side to side for the top and bottom borders, we all sew differently).

Then you will place your pinwheels in between each square as shown on the sashings.

Then seven on the top and bottom and five on the sides.  Starting from the middle and working out centering them as you go.  Blanket stitch them down.

Quilt as desired.

Bind.

WHAT DOES "FAT CAT PATTERNS" AND ISLAND BATIK HAVE IN COMMON????

CHICKENS!!!

                                                 LOTS AND LOTS OF CHICKENS!!!

If you have read any previous post, I am doing a (secret) chicken quilt for my husband)

.

Hence the bad quality photos, had a piece of material to throw over them in case he came in.

Which he did while writing this post...causing me a heart attack.....not good when one is over fifty....

Some of them need eyes but I so love them.  I love using the Island Batik fabrics (of course you do Barbara, of course you do......smiling shamefully here).  Here is the link to Fat Cat Patterns, she has a lot of free patterns that You will totally love.

I have been doing these after he goes to bed, make sure he is snoring, and then I drown myself in my Island Batik Scrap bin.  It takes more time prepping these chickens than it does to blanket stitch around them.

Seven more to go.....  Probably won't have these done by his birthday in a few weeks but that is ok.....

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME SUNSHINE?

I know that several of my friends are having cold weather and snow.  Sorry to put that extra knife in your back but we are in the 70's here.

Time to plant those potatoes.

Well....

In my spare time I have been working on this quilt.

I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to make it bigger.

But that little voice in my head said.....if you even try it you will never get it finished.

So for once the voice is being obeyed.

Although I have a few ideas for another border.

Here is a better picture of the beautiful fabrics.

I just love this Island Batik Fabric.  This quilt is made from my scraps.

Most of you know that the "Planes, trains, and automobile" blog hop is going on right now.  Do see my side bar and fly on over there.  Lots of fun giveaways and inspiration.

WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU CROSS ISLAND BATIK FABRIC AND THE ACCUQUILT GO CUTTER?

                                                A FUN CHRISTMAS RUNNER!!!

I just love Island Batik Fabrics.  You can even use your scraps.  I doesn't take much to make this little runner.

Here is another one!

It is so much fun trying to use the accuquilt go dies in different ways.

I think this would be fun as a wedding runner as well.  Maybe even have the names embroidered on the ribbon on each side.

How about some cute covers for your composition notebook?

It is hotter than hatties here in Texas....suppose to get up to 105 this week-end.  No fun going outside.

WARNING!!!!! DON'T DO THIS!!!! - A LITTLE SNEAK PEAK

Sorry if I have not responded to your comments or even visited your blogs.   It has been very busy over here with family matters.  When I do have the time, I am either tired or trying to play catch up.

Here is a piece of fabric...notice anything wrong with it?

Look real close on both ends.

Notice that someone had cut a little hunk off both ends....... I try so hard not to do this and just use one end for my applique pieces but looks like I wasn't paying attention.
-----------------------------------

Next, I made this little bunny in Amerika Samoa and found her today.  So....I pulled it out (had other things to do of more importance) and made the cups and lettering to go around her.

This is so me in the mornings.  I don't drink coffee but I sure drag my feet.

Next is a little sneak peak at Island Batik's up coming fabrics.....  My husband just laughed when he saw me smelling the bundles.....  I think I am due another sniff.....

I really think a person can get high sniffing fabrics.

It sure makes me happy.
