THE PROBLEMS WITH UFO'S

I drug this top out of obscurity.  I started it in Virginia.

PROBLEM #1:  Memory Loss

WHAT WAS I THINKING?  Was there any rhyme or reason to this?  If I were to do it now I would place the squares differently.  I know, there is still time...but No way.....it is together and that is what it will be.

PROBLEM #2  Memory Loss

I have a few more squares to make in order to make it longer.  It took me forever, I know...some of you could just pick up where you left off and you are thinking...simple Log Cabin.  Well...for some of us it takes a little longer....(not the sharpest knife).  But it took me a few times of ripping out to get the square correct.  Now I just need to add them.  I kept thinking to myself, why didn't you just finish this when you were working on it.
 PROBLEM #3  Memory Loss

No name calling should be allowed when trying to pick up where you left off.

Now this quilt was started in Samoa, I veered from the original pattern and had put borders on it and left off the horseshoes.  So I ripped off the borders and put the horseshoes on it and thought....What was I thinking????? in Samoa...I now want to follow the pattern.  HUMMMMM

PROBLEM #4  Memory Loss
Be sure to read all of the directions....or you just might cut the squares the wrong size.  YEP!!!!!  Not the sharpest knife.  I had machine stitched two blocks...went to cut to size.....  Once again...no name calling allowed!!!

PROBLEM #5  MEMORY LOSS
So...you take your unfinished project, bundle it up...it has been forgotten.  You need a piece of fabric and you spot it in the bundled project and think (because you have forgotten)...oh I will just use a little of this.  When it comes time to go back to said project, you are now missing or don't have enough fabric.   Remember...no name calling allowed.

As you can see, it is so much more worth it to finish the project right then...at least to the top stage....Yep....it is easier said than done and I applaud anyone who does this.

I think.....don't take my word for it because sometimes projects just appear but I only have about two tops besides the ones above that are in the unfinished stage....That is my goal...to get those to the top stage and possibly done.

Yep...You heard it here...GET UR DONE!!!

Oh, gosh! I have many 'what-was-thinking' projects in forgotten bins and lots of memory loss! So, no name calling here! Good luck with your projects!

LOL, I so get it. I think why, why, did in think this would be good. So I just put it back in the UFO pile. You are a better woman than I!

I was going to comment but I seem to be suffering from problem #5 (or is it #1?)

I'm tryin', I'm tryin'! But like you, I pull something out and say out loud to myself, "What was I thinking?" It must be our mantra!

You are too funny. I do try to get the top finished before I let it languish.

Or have clear notes with the box it's in?? I've had that too, but my UFOs don't last THAT long.

Hahaha, this is so me! If I don't finish it right away the memory loss comes into play. When I buy fabric I actually have little sticky notes that I put on the fabric in the store to mark what project it's being purchased for and how much there is, otherwise I forget. I keep the sticky notes in a Ziploc bag in my purse. I often say I don't have any UFOs because I promised myself many years ago to finish what I start, but I do have projects waiting to be started that I pick up things for along the way. Each has a designated bag to put the things in. That way I can shop the sales. When all items are together in a sort of kit, I sew it up and if I need to have it quilted it goes right to the quilter's after piecing is done. I'm using up tons of fabric now that I bought when my own kids were little and it's a wonderful feeling to know when my time comes to leave this world that the kids won't just donate all my fabric while having no idea what beautiful creations I'd pictured in my mind and intended to make when I bought it! Besides that, now that our income has taken a huge hit with the economy and outsourcing of my job I don't have to spend any money and can still enjoy my relaxing hobby!

Haha, I have so been in this situation! Hang in there!

Good luck. I like your goal and often make that goal myself, but always get interested in a new project that keeps me from cleaning up the ufo's.

This made me laugh! I'm laughing with you, not at you, because I have done all of the above at one time. Good luck!

Are you peeking through my window? I can match each of your experiences with a UFO of my own. I don't know why my memory loss problems never cause me to forget to eat.

Barb, thanks for my laugh of the day! Enjoyed seeing myself in your post today.........I saw a cute quote today, "at my age 'getting lucky' means going into a room and remembering what I came in for"...........

I am with you all the way, so many projects and who knows what I was doing with them. Sounds to me you are whittling the ufo's down to nothing, maybe you need to come do mine for me;)

Oh, yes, you had to remind us of UFOs. And the problems! Sometimes I think I'm getting dementia as I just can't remember things very well. I'm hoping to get some UFOs finished this year. That will be my goal once we get moved into our new house in OR next month. I hope I'll have time to get some sewing done.

Lol! They are great no matter what you did/do! Log cabin is my favorite.

I hate it when I come across some fabric that I KNOW I loved when I bought it, but cannot for the life of me remember what I had in mind!!

I know what you mean about tops appearing out of nowhere! Oh, yeah, now I remember that one! Can't be my age???

memory loss sure can be a problem. I have asked myself those same questions. LOL

Memory loss is only sometimes a good thing with forgotten projects--as when you needed to sliver trim eleventy-two HSTS and just couldn't face it at that time! Thanks for the laughs:)
