“SPOTLIGHT ON NEUTRALS” BY Pat Wys…..and some finishes

Look what I won over at Silver Thimble Talk!! I was so thrilled to have an autographed book by Pat. I have always loved her work.

She also sent an I-tunes card……. Thanks sooooooooooooooooo much Pat!!!

What a fabulous book, I am just showing you two of my most favorite. You know I had to hone in on the applique.

In fact I was trying to decide if I had enough neutral fabrics to do this pattern (I was wondering if the bejeweled owned any neutrals). Even wondering

if I know what a neutral is. You all know I love bright and flashy. So I was going around looking in all the nooks and crannies….when a lightening bolt

hit me…… BARB…..YOU DO NOT NEED TO START ONE MORE PROJECT!!!! GET SOME OF YOUR PROJECTS DONE!!! THEN START A NEW ONE!!! STEP AWAY

FROM THE FABRICS…..BACK UP SLOWLY AND WALK OUT OF THE FABRIC ROOM.

So I did…but oh….it is so hard not to do this basket one….so if I cave, it will be a good cave.

004 005Here is a view of the free motion hearts I did on the back of the patch one.

Here are the two quilts that my mother and Sister Beverly started (they made the tops and my mother started stitching in the ditch in the

princess one). I finished quilting both and today finished the binding…..I will have to confess, the binding has been on for over a week just

waiting for me to sew it to the back side. Why did I put it off? It only took about 15 minutes each at the most to machine sew it down….why do

I do this? Put things off?

With all that you do...don't berate yourself! You get an incredible amount of work done! I took flashed on that beige ribbon pillow...it would be fun to make.

Look at what you are accomplishing...great job!

Congratulations on your win Barb! I won that book too, although mine won't be mailed until after Market. I think you and I should both make a neutrals quilt at the same time! I'm going to have to go shopping though because I don't think I have any neutrals either! LOL

I have always wanted to do a neutral quilt, but like you, I find myself drawn to the brighter colors and heaven knows I DO NOT need another project.

I love the ribbon pillow. I do have a lot of neutrals now. That would be a good use of them.

Congrat's on the win. I'd been looking at a couple previews of that book, as I think I may have a retirement quilt to make for our boss. I'm told her entire home is decorated in neutrals, so that's probably the safest choice for a surprise. The combination of subtle fabrics can create striking quilts.
Your FMQ looks great!

well, how about two birds with one stone, I'm a BRIGHT colored person too, so how about ADDING a flower applique to a current project JUST for now and come back to the neutrals- I have like NO neutrals in my stash... or what about at least doing a basket that's tone on tone then?

What a fabulous win, Barb! And I'm proud of you for being able to exercise your willpower and not start a new project. But I bet you hear it calling to you in the middle of the night...."Barb, come and start me...you know you want to!" Just ignore it! :o)

XOXO,

Cyndi

I have to say I am a bright person too and would be hard to find in my stash very many neutrals except maybe white. But the basket quilt is neat. Why don't you have a swap and maybe you can get some neutrals for some brights.
Guess what I won something the other day on Madam Samm's contest and I was so excited because I never win anything. Maybe some good luck is around the corner. Blessings Sandra

Just remember if it looks good in neutrals, it will look AMAZING in brights - (so says Me!)

I know what you mean about neutrals- I really had to look in my fairly large stash to find enough creams for the tree quilt that I started this weekend. However it was no problem to find reds and greens nor would it be one for blue green, purple or pink... Now yellow might be a bit more tricky and brown even more so... As for orange well- that is a color I rarely by- not sure why- have a few bold prints with orange in them but not much plain orange. As for cream, white and pastels I have much more difficulty- I just love color- bold and bright... The new book looks great- have fun creating a quilt that is outside your creative box...
Regards,
Anna
