Owl

As you can see, I have given you the owl design. I worked it up real fast last night. Double click and then print. If that does not work, I can email it to you. If anyone knows how I can do this differently and offer the design on the side just by clicking, please let me know, I am willing to make this easier on everyone and myself included. Also please note, owls are all over the internet, this is just a simple pattern put together for you.

Here is the picture you can refer to, especially with the way I did the eyes which is explained in the middle of the owl...just wanted the whole pattern on one page.

I have not been talking about the classes I have been teaching because I thought you all would get sick of it fast. I don't have pictures because I don't want to lug my camera around my neck the whole time. Betsy suggest a desposible camera but knowing myself, I would never get the film developed.

The classes are going well, I have learned alot about teaching and one of those is not to assume anything (Deanna taught me that too). Also, the class that says they know how to sew, I can promise you that maybe only two or three out of the 14 know how to sew. I really need to do the basics with them. Also, alot of them think they know and just take off and then by the end or middle of the class time, it is Barbara, what did I do wrong. I can truthfully tell you that I have had a major headache by the time the classes were over on Monday and Wednesday of this week. My hat goes off to teachers everywhere, to have to talk all day long, stand all day long and repeat yourself for the 100th time.... YOU TEACHERS ROCK!!!! I am glad it is only twice a week and I am glad for my soon to be break. The lady that will be teaching them when I am gone is going to be tough on them and hopefully, teach them better than what I have been able to do.

I do enjoy teaching but maybe in smaller groups and a shorter amount of time....this has been a good experience for myself, I have learned alot..alot....

I just had to say that my other sister Margaret has a quilting blog now, called the average quilter, go by and say hello and welcome her. She just got a new longarm and is going to town.

Thanks for the owl pattern. I'm definitely going to have to do some.

As for the teaching, don't be so tough on yourself. You must have been doing a good job or the photos you have shown wouldn't have had such happy ladies in them, and they wouldn't have been making the things they have.

It's a shame that Blogger doesn't have a format for sharing PDF files. I got around this by opening a free Google web site just for that purpose.

Hi Barb , I haven,t done any teaching fora few years now but I loved teaching , I loved the surprise on faces when They finished a project.
The last teaching I did was a couple of years ago in my own home . 2 ladies who were desperate to learn patchwork . One of them would not buy fabric , she insisted on using old rubbish , moaned about leaving tails of cotton , wanted to cut it off so close to the cloth . I still shudder at the memory . they just wanted an afternoon out--cottonreel

I hear ya. I taught a group of ladies from my church how to quilt. Went over all the basics, use a 1/4" seam, yada, yada, yada. We were almost finished with the piecing and one lady says "how come my top is smaller then everyone elses?" Hummm...... yes even if you tell them, they sometimes don't listen and do it "their way"!

Thanks for the owl pattern! Sorry, but I had to smile a bit when you talked about your difficulties with your 'advanced' students. I taught a quilting class many years ago. It was a beginner hand sewing class because we did not have enough electrical outlets in the classroom. There were 29 students enrolled. But there were only 20 desks and chairs. So we broght in extra chairs and sat them around the other desks. There was almost no room to move around the classroom, but I had to do it anyway because every other minute someone would have the thread come out of their needle and I had to go and thread it again because they just couldn't do it. Sorry to go on like this, but thanks.

Those owls are adorable, Barb. Thanks for the pattern.

I agree with you that teachers need a lot of credit. My mom was and my DIL is a teacher and the after work hours that they put in correcting papers, etc. is amazing.

What a cute Owl design. Thank you for sharing. I'm going to have a hoot creating a quilt with this design.

And I'm sure you are a great teacher and your students are learning to create beautiful quilts and other items. You are giving them a wonderful gift - the ability to create!

Love the little owl! I have several friends who love them, too and I will reference your blog to them so they can get it themselves.

Teaching is hard. I think it is much harder to teach adults than children. A smaller group is definitely better.

Now I am off to see your sister's blog!

I love short and squishy owls :) This month's theme for a swap I'm in is owls. Maybe I can find a nice hand kitchen towel to use with your sweet owl.

I know that I would not make a good teacher for a class that is larger than maybe 5 people. I would not have the patience lol. Strange because I homeschool the kids.

Off to pester Margaret :)

Barb, thanks so much for the owl, I really love him. 14 is a pretty big class for something that is hands on. When I was teaching, I had a class of 15 with 2 or 3 helpers. You've got your hands full.

Loved your owl! Sharing files... I have a folder on my website where I store the files I am sharing on my blog. Then I can add a link to the file as a gadget, or I can add a link in the text part of the blog to be clicked on as readers are reading my humma-humma.
