HEART ATTACK DAY # 4 - ARE YOU STILL WITH ME? TWO TUTORIALS - CANDLE MAT AND HOW TO MAKE A CIRCLE

There are a few die hards that are hanging in there for my Heart Attack Week and for that I want to thank you.

                                                                 You bored yet?

             Here we have a cut little Candle Mat or Topper.

Using my Accuquilt Go cutter, gorgeous Island Batik Fabrics, and aurifil thread for the blanket stitching.

I had to improvise on the fabric, I didn't have any fabric big enough for the back ground fabric so I just sewed three pieces together.  

Are you Ready?

You will need for this project a 12 1/2" square of fabric.  I would suggest that you do it with paper first just to get your footing.

As you can see above I use Freezer paper.  They were having a sale on it after deer season one year and needless to say I have more than one box.

There is nothing methodical about me, I just ripped off a piece that I thought would be big enough.

Fold in half.

Half again, so you have it in fourths.

Take and flip the top corner over to the side corner.

You get this with a nice point.

Then you place it over your heart shape on the Heart Go die.  I don't know if you can see but I have the outline of the heart on the side.  You do not want to go over the sides of the die or you will just get eight cut out hearts.

Here is a better picture....You can see the actual cut out.

Now for the center of the heart.  On the go die there are three hearts.  You want the small heart but next to it is the medium heart.  See how I outlined that medium heart.  You do not...and I repeat, you do not want your mat to cross over to that medium heart.

Do you hear me sobbing....I thought I had the die mat away from the medium die.

I love this one.....................I was thinking of maybe putting fray check on it and making it anyway.

Or if there anyone out there that would like this?  If you want it speak up and I will send it to you.

So here it is all spread out.

Now all you need to do is make the circle for it to go on.

The actual cut out is about 12 1/2"  but the background is 14"

HOW TO MAKE THE CIRCLE

The circle that I am going to show is is going to be 8 inches in diameter.

The math is pretty simple, has to be for me to get it right.  If you want a 14" circle you will just divide in half and get seven....so any circle size you want, just divide in half for your marking measurement.

Fold the paper (fabric) in fourths.

Since I want an 8 inch circle (you will want a 14" circle in diameter, this is just for my demo), I want to cut the eight in half, which is four.

So I want to measure four inches on the side as you see below.

Now the bottom of the ruler is going to stay in that corner, you will pivot across the top.

As you pivot, you will leave a dot.

Pivot and dot all the way across to the other side.

Once you have gone to the other side you will join your dots.  Or you can just cut from dot to dot.

Now you are going to cut the line but I have learned from experience that you need to leave a little dog ear at each side.  If you do not, sometimes the sides will make a V inward.  You can always take away fabric but you can't add to it.

Once you have it laid out you can just cut the dog ears off.

Now you have everything you need.

Heart cut out.

circle background fabric.

Batting 

backing.

Sorry I don't have any pictures for the rest.

You will lay your cut out on top of your circle.  

I love using fusible but the fusible would make it to thick for my go cutter.

Just glue the top and then go around and glue the bottom.

Quite simple.  You might get a pucker here or there but nothing earth shattering.

After it  is glued down, you can either blanket stitch around it now or do what I like to do and blanket stitch through all layers, top, backing, and batting.

Be sure to have the batting and backing just a little bigger than the top.

Quilt as desired.

Bind it and you are finished. 

 I am here to tell you that you can have this whipped up in no time.

HEART ATTACK DAY # 2

Last week I spent may days recreating the patterns you will see through the week.

Here is one that I simply love.

It is called "SPOKEN HEARTS"

You can find it here:

Fun little topper.  In fact you can just double up on it and make it wider if you like.

This one is 15 1/2" x 15 1/2"

Here is the original version.  You can also find this pattern on the Accuquilt site.

This is made by using the Accuquilt Go Heart die and blanket stitch.

As you can tell, it will take you no time at all to make this.  Great gift.

This is what we woke up to this morning in Texas.

OF COURSE WE HAVE TO CLEAN OUR SPOT FIRST!!

It seems that every time I want to get down and dirty with my sewing that I have to clean my sewing room first?

What is up with that?

I could be a messy quilter????

I could be a lazy quilter (not willing to take the time to pick up after myself as I sew).

I could be a "I don't care" quilter.....don't care about the mess and don't care how long it sits there.
            to be honest, I hate clutter.....

Hummmmmm

Maybe I am  an unorganized quilter?

 No matter how hard I try....just don't make the gravy.

So my floors are swept.

My table is cleaned off.



Do many of you do this?

I cut off an old Clorox bottle and used it for a catch all by my sewing machine.

So I moved it and decided to put a smaller one next to the machine hoping that I could not catch too



much in it.



I notice that I clean it out more...and notice that the Clorox bottle is not cleaned out yet....

  Do I really need those items?

  Hummmmm

Now...when I cook, I clean as I go so there is not so much to clean when I am done.

My mother taught me to clean the bathroom as I am in there...

So....what can I say?

I make my bed when I get out of it....

So why can't I keep my sewing room organized.

 I have seen some of your sewing rooms....

I have a drool rag next to me when I see them and my sin of envy comes out.

Does it really matter? I am happy...you are happy....

Happy!  Happy!  Joy! Joy!

So...don't judge me....!!

Now to some down and dirty sewing...it is serious business today....WHOOOOOOOOO

Let the sewing commence.

Oh by the way, I failed to mention that the runner  Gobble Gobble was made with the Accuquilt Go cutter, I used the Heather Feather die # 2 and the heart die.  I don't have the letter's die but if you have that you are set.  Even if you do not have this Accuquilt Go cutter, the applique pieces are included so you can cut them out youself.

I HAVE BECOME A GARBAGE PICKER...

Last Thursday a friend came over to use my Go cutter. As she was using it she was throwing the scraps in the garbage.

 I told her not to be surprised if I didn't dig in the garbage after she left.


 She looked at me funny and said...you want these scraps!


 I said yes, I sure do.

 They were not much to look at but I could see potential.

 So.....in the garbage I went...wasn't too bad, no nasty food, just strings, not even a chocolate wrapper to graze the chocolate off of it (just kidding).

Got my trusty Go cutter out and this is what I came up with....using my heart die and my rick rack die.
Still needs to be quilted....but in time!

Oh NOOOOOO!!! NOT ANOTHER VALENTINES TOPPER!!!

Using my Large heart die and the small one for the Accuquilt Go Cutter.

Here is the large heart

Used my 2 1/2 strip die to cut the heart, I did have to take my scissors and cut up the middle.

Here is the placement of the heart

This is how I placed it. Then I Blanket stitched around

the hearts.

As you can see from the squares, I have the purple and pink alternating.

I cut 8 one inch by 7 1/2 “ strips, four of each color. You can see in the picture

how I placed them. Did a four patch for the middle.

Quilted as desired, and bound.

GHASTLIE BLOG HOP STARTS TOMORROW - FEW FINISHES

Yesterday when I got up my husband goes...."Let's go to JoAnn's"

Say what???? JoAnn's!!!

I was ready in ten minutes.

He even went in with me instead of sitting in the car. It is so funny to see these men sitting in the car waiting for their wives or tagging behind them in JoAnn's. What awesome husbands or significants.

He couldn't find me at one point and headed right to the clearance....he found me. He said he knew that is where I would be....HA!!!!

Well...I don't know if you can see the cobblestone (quilted with Guetermann thread) on this wall hanging but I finally decided on quilting that in the white area. Sometimes you just have to let it sit and eventually it will come to you. I will admit, deciding on how to quilt something is my weak point. I need to study up.

This wall hanging uses 4 Accuquilt dies, tumbler, flower, heart, and Sunbonnet Sue, the directions are in the post below, incase you missed it.

I would like to say that I know a lot of you do not have a the Accuquilt Go cutter but if you are interested, I can cut you the shapes out on card stock and send it to you for either one of the projects.

Then I blanket stitched this. This is from the Fall Medley die.



Started a fun new design with one of the accuquilt dies.

SUN BONNET SUE

Here is my Sun Bonnet Sue, it is cut out with the Accuquilt Go cutter....
I also used the Funky Flower die, heart die, and 2 1/2 strip die. Now the die for the Sun Bonnet Sue does not have the band for the hat, I just did the band on my own so I could put those lovely buttons from ButtonMad on it. Nope, still haven't found my other ones (buttons)....

I still have some quilting to do on a few squares, Mr. Horizon and I were not getting along Saturday so I just closed down shop. My husband says it is operator error (how could he???)...how could I????

I just love green and pink together, this quilt is pretty scrappy....but I love it!

Thanks to all of you who responded to my blogger problem, I have the problems fixed and I am a happy blogger now....
