STARRY NIGHT BY SEW KIND OF WONDERFUL

 Christine, Jeanette's daughter, has joined the Inch Worm Fabric team, I think she is going to try to blog for Jeanette.  I am excited, I get to use all the awesome fabrics in the store and Christine gets to blog about them.

I will say that when I was in her store I noticed that she had a fat quarter bundle of "Anne of Green Gables" fabric.   Below are the fabrics ..... aren't they wonderful?

Last year I finished the "Starry Night" top, I was wanting to do some fancy quilting.  I kept waiting and waiting....moving the top from one place to another.  I know all of you out there do not do that....  Actually, I was kinda nervous to do ruler work and also, I knew that it would take me forever and I have so many other things I want to do....was that a whine?

So I decided to swirl it.  Let me tell you, even swirling it took a lot of time and bobbins, I went over 12 bobbins, lost count after the 12.

I convinced my son to hold it up for me.  I sooooo Love it.  I will tell ya, the fabrics look kinda dull but they are not....they scream brightness.

Rainy and cold today.

THERE IS A CHILL IN THE AIR AND NEW FABRIC IN MY SEWING ROOM.

I just have to say that my most favorite time of the year is fall.  I love the chill in the air and the smell of fall.

Here is the fat quarter bundle I purchased from Quilt in a Day.  Riley Flake "Farm House Christmas".   I just love these fabrics....Happy Birthday to me.

Next I got a surprise package from Creative Latitude, there were two skeletons but my grandson has the black one tied to his backpack.  There were also some other goodies but my grandson ate those.  She was just sending random people little gifts for commenting on her post.  She is one amazing person and friend.

Winding Ways Accuquilt die....why am I showing you this....because I want it....haha

the reason I would like this die is because of what I am doing at the present time.

The red fabric is Island Batik but I am mostly using Java batiks.

I swore I was not going to start another project until I got a few things done but those Java Batiks from Inchworm fabrics were just screaming at me....so I had to do something.

This is going to be Country Chic by Sew Kind of Wonderful using the quick curved ruler but the winding ways would really make fast work of this.  I will say that my squares are 5",  making a 10 inch block.  The winding ways makes an 8" finished block.

My sister, Jeanette, at Inchworm fabrics has asked me if she sent me fabric would I be willing to make some projects and post about them, kinda like an ambassador.  Who doesn't like free fabric....so I jumped on that in a heart beat.  My first fabric is coming this week....I am so excited.

 

DETOUR WITH CURVACEOUS CURVES

Here is the fabric I picked out for my Tree of Life Quilt.  I might change the solid green, we will see.

I did organize my fabrics and found I have way too much red.  I am not a red person so I can not figure out for the life of me why I have so much??????  I also have very little purple and pink, what is up with that?  Oh well...it is nice and tidy.  I wish I had taken a picture but my room has been destroyed since.  Don't ask me how that happened.

 

Blast those advertisements that come in our hotmail.....Blast!!!!!  

I clicked on an ad for Sew Kind of Wonderful and went to their site.  Blast it all!!

I did a tour of their free patterns and low and behold this pattern pops up.  I don't know what happened...

I JUST HAD TO HAVE IT !!!!

I had to order the Urban Nine Patch in order to do this  Nine Patch-on-point but I didn't mind.

I guess you know what happened after that????  Yep......the Tree of Life was put in a pile on my table (sorry)

Here is my quick Curve Ruler in action, it is a little unnerving to make that cut because as you know, once that cut is made, there is no going back.

By the way, I have my sister, Jeanette, to thank  for getting me hooked on this ruler.  I think she is joining me in making this quilt, not sure yet.

Posh Penelope by Sew Kind of Wonderful - family quilt

I just wanted to show you the completed "Posh Penelope" by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I did the binding yesterday morning.  YEAH!!!!

Not perfect but I love it!!!

I also want to say since some have asked, I used Java Batiks from Inchworm fabrics, most of the background fabrics and a few of the flowers is Island Batik, and I did use one batik from Timeless Treasures for a background.

Next I want to show you just two squares.  One year, can't remember when but it has been a while, I am guessing six years????  Anyways, several sisters, mother, and nieces decided to pull one name out of the hat each month and then that person got to chose a block.

Then that month we all sent that block to the person's whose name was chosen.

As you can see, I chose the Tree of Life.  Yesterday I spent my afternoon trying to figure out who made which block.  There are twelve blocks.   Just a suggestion, if you by chance do this, put the name on the back somewhere???? Since we all have a group message on our phones it was kinda easy.  Eventually I figured it out and started embroidering  the name and what relation they were.

 Here is my mother's block, maybe you can see that she did not follow the rules (funny huh)?  I think it was right on the beginning of her dementia....but I love the block anyways.

So this is my quest now, to find a sashing fabric and border fabric.  I am going through all of my fabrics, thinking of organizing them as well...so this project may take a while.

 It seems the older I get, the harder it is to stay focused.

Let me give you an example.

The other day:

 I decided to get busy and work on my Posh Penelope Quilt.  Haven't worked on it in months.

Above are the squares I have done.

I had most of the pieces cut out but not all.  I returned to it after Christmas and started cutting the remainder out.  To my displeasure, I had forgotten how and had to relearn.  At the risk of repeating myself, there is a ruler you use.

I am using the top one.  Sew kind of Wonderful ruler.

As I am cutting out my blocks.

My sister shows this Star of Bethlehem block (this is the block I did)

....as you have probably gathered, the Posh Penelope block was put to the side.

Jeanette modified the pattern and I took the pattern and used my Accuquilt Go 8" Cube to make this bock.

My block is 32  1/2 x  32 1/2", hers is smaller.  I was going to add two borders to it.  I wanted to do something fancy but I am running out of fabric.

Anyways, as I had one border cut out...a thought came to me ....

Yes, you get where this is going.   

The thought was, why not get my tub of scraps (should be tubs) and cut out a whole bunch of log cabin blocks.  I have the Log Cabin die, will make fast work of the scraps and will get rid of a lot of scraps.

Now this is where you are to laugh because we all know that cutting scraps create more scraps.

STAY FOCUSED!!!  

Hard concept for some of us.

Below is my Log Cabin die with the cutting blade out.  Pooey.....

I was finally was able to get the blade back in but other blades were coming out.  I didn't want to wait for a replacement (which I hope they will replace).  Waiting for the holidays to get over.

So I put them back in and now....after each cut I take this ceramic tile and place over the blades to push them back in.

I must admit, it is not the smartest idea to keep cutting and run the risk of getting cut myself but I am a gal on a mission.

My husband and I were out yesterday and I asked him to take me to Micheal's to see if I could get something to store my Log Cabin pieces in until I was ready to sew and this is what I found.

How awesome is this????  I already have it full to the brim.  I have two of these because there are 12 pieces.  The Accuquilt Go die sure makes short work of this.

I need two more of these compartments.....maybe tomorrow I will go back to Micheal's and pick up two more.

I know...some of you are asking how I went from doing a border to the Log Cabin die.  Too much thinking time?  Actually, I wanted to make a king size Log Cabin Quilt for my bed and have been thinking on it.  Thinking is over and cutting time has begun.

As you have probably guess, my sewing room is a pig sty but I will clean it up when I am done.

Last week I was not able to sew any, was busy babysitting while my son helped my husband put in the metal post.  I helped with the heavy log post but the metal ones I was not able to help with.  So my son and his family came for four day.  During that time, there was no sewing for me except that I was able to cut out all of the remaining blocks which helped a ton this week.

I used so many different batiks.  Java Batiks from Inchworm fabrics, Island Batiks, Batiks I have hoarded over the years from Hawaii and Marshalls.

Guess what????  Come on guess????  

The top is done!!!!!!  

I am so excited.  This was such a fun quilt.  

I will show you when I can clear up a space to lay it out or hang it up.  Or maybe when it is totally finished????

This next is the backing for a king size quilt.  I had some left over stars.  You are actually looking at the wrong side of the backing.  I had a time working with all of that fabric.  I was totally pooped when I got it all done and thrown over the machine.  I just need to load it.  I have to tell ya.  I was not happy when I went to my long arm.  Some of the fabrics that are attached to the poles were off.....I have my grandsons to thank for that.  Good thing none of them were around...HaHa

It is a rainy rainy week and cold.  

 

STARRY NIGHT AND PALM TREES

I am just too excited not to post.

I finished Joseph from "Starry Night" by Sew kind of wonderful.

Then I went on to the Palm Trees....oh my gosh, this block is so fun to make.  I see a whole quilt with palm trees in my future.

Island Batik Fabrics were used in the palm trees.  In the Joseph and Mary I used Java Batiks (Inchworm Fabrics) and Island Batik Fabrics.  I would say that I am mostly using Island Batik Fabrics.

This was my first full day this week to be able to sew, well, I should say afternoon.  I had some chores to do since I have spent most of my time outside helping my husband setting fence post for two days, by the time we got in I was too sore and tired to do much else.  These old bones aren't what they used to be.

A HOSH POSH OF THINGS AND MORE!

Bear Creek Quilt Company was asking for pillowcases and quilts for the Oregon fire victims.

So I stopped what I was working on (will show you in a minute) to make some pillowcases.

Sew kind of wonderful came out with this pattern.  I may have shown it to you but if I have, just bear with me.  I just loved this pattern.  I purchased the online video and so glad I did.  I am a visual learner and those clases has helped a lot.

This is all I have gotten done.  I was in the zone and going to town.  I had all these plans and then I saw the post asking for pillowcases and quilts.  Then my grandson came to visit (no crying here).

Notice the hair, I am kicking myself for taking things literally.  I wanted her to have brown hair and felt the stable should be brown....I don't want to do it over so I am thinking maybe some quilting in the hair?

Here are the two quick curve rulers, one is the quick curve and the other is the wonderful curve ruler.  The wonderful curve ruler is for the "Starry Night."  The Quick Curve is for the quilt below.

I was actually making headway on this one but got interrupted when "Starry Night" pattern came in.  You guessed it.  I am working on both.

Just a random picture of this catfish that came out of our pond.  No,  that is not me, I wish.

 Then last week, I got the hair brained ideal to make the girls that I have activities with on Wednesday these placemats.  I made six of them.  When my machine was working, at one point I was threatening to trade the machine in.   Anyways, I got all six done and delivered.

Now...today I get to work in my sewing room.  I ran around this morning doing my chores and running errands and now...ahhhhhh  I am in my happy place.

SISTER QUILTS

How many of you have made a quilt and had a lot of scraps left over, I mean sewn together scraps?

This quilt here I made in 2014, I had so many  beautiful Samoan  scraps left over that I saved in a box knowing that I wanted to make another quilt.

This was a charity quilt.

                This one is also a charity quilt for a friend that has a rabbit rescue in Idaho.

                                 I do not have room to lay this all out for you to see but I truly love it.
                        One day I will get my sewing room back!!

This quilt here was made with oriental fabrics from Inchworm Fabrics.  My sister Jeanette and I ordered the Quick Curved Ruler and then I purchased us both the "One Wonderful Curve" book.  We decided to do this quilt together.  She has hers and will be showing it as soon as it is quilted.   I have had this quilt done for sometime now.  I wish I had room to show you the whole thing.

 I have shown this quilt before but it is the Sister quilt to the one above.  There were so many curved scraps  from the quilt above that I decided to keep them and make a quilt out of them.  I used the Orange peel Accuquilt Go die for this one.  The orange peel die was perfect and trust me there was very little scraps.

So I guess you could say that I got two quilts for the price of one.

Fabrics left over from Candy Cane Lane

I had wanted to make this one a king size quilt for the blog hop in January but ran out of the yellow Island Batik Fabric and could not find any of it online at all, just my luck!

So I made a second quilt since I had made all of these curves from the Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

So here comes the extra projects from my scrap bin diving

I just finished this small quilt 49 1/2" x 49 1/2".  I had several checker board blocks, so I just added them together.  I had fussy cut the quilt bove to get the reindeer just right so I had some fussy cut strips left over so I just used them here.  Since they were left over scraps from the fussy cut the reindeer just don't quite line up which gives the illusion of a wonky quilt.

What to do with all of the extra curved pieces?????    I decided to just blanket stitch them together, I guess I could have sewn them together and have gotten the same thing.  Added the reindeer and there you have it.  Love the curved ends.

                                                

Here is a table runner with more curved blocks, trust me, this runner looks way better in person than here.

There projects were so fun and it certainly emptied my scrap bin of some unfinished blocks.  I still have curved blocks left, if you are reading them and want them, I would be happy to send them to you.  I think there are around 24 left.  That being said, I have just about used up all of the fabric line of Candy Cane Lane. 

Did it make a dent in my scraps?  NOOOOOOO but it was oh so fun!

I had almost purchased this book on Amazon but lucky for me my Sister Jeanette sent me this book for my birthday.  YEA ME!!
