SISTER QUILTS

How many of you have made a quilt and had a lot of scraps left over, I mean sewn together scraps?

This quilt here I made in 2014, I had so many  beautiful Samoan  scraps left over that I saved in a box knowing that I wanted to make another quilt.

This was a charity quilt.

                This one is also a charity quilt for a friend that has a rabbit rescue in Idaho.

                                 I do not have room to lay this all out for you to see but I truly love it.
                        One day I will get my sewing room back!!

This quilt here was made with oriental fabrics from Inchworm Fabrics.  My sister Jeanette and I ordered the Quick Curved Ruler and then I purchased us both the "One Wonderful Curve" book.  We decided to do this quilt together.  She has hers and will be showing it as soon as it is quilted.   I have had this quilt done for sometime now.  I wish I had room to show you the whole thing.

 I have shown this quilt before but it is the Sister quilt to the one above.  There were so many curved scraps  from the quilt above that I decided to keep them and make a quilt out of them.  I used the Orange peel Accuquilt Go die for this one.  The orange peel die was perfect and trust me there was very little scraps.

So I guess you could say that I got two quilts for the price of one.

YOURS, MINE, AND OURS!!! A QUICK PEAK AT THE QUILT I AM MAKING WITH SAMOAN FABRICS

I was telling my husband today that having a smaller room means I don't have room to lay out my squares.  Sometimes when I am stumped I will lay out the squares and sometimes they will sit for days while I think.

I will have to find a place, maybe a bed???

So I decided to make a Samoan quilt with some of the fabrics that were sent to me.

Some of the fabrics she sent, some I had...so I am calling it yours, mine, and ours quilt.

It truly looks a lot prettier up close and personal!

I decided to use my "Quick Curve Ruler"....boy I am addicted to that ruler.

I am using four different fabrics for each row and as you can see, actually five if you count the background fabric.  I am using a color for each row so I can use a lot of her different fabrics.  Won't it be nice to have a quilt that depicts a lot of the fabrics she gave away to me?

This picture above did not turn out good at all...that color is green not gray.  Maybe it is the lamp I have sitting on my cutting board that messes with the color?

Orange....ummm ummm good...  

Yellow, this color just didn't do well either...maybe it is throwing the colors back?  Isn't it dark colors that absorb light?

 Purple.  I decided to use some stamped Samoan fabric that I have had for the background fabric.

I have red, and brown left to do.  The red has the Samoan stamp as well.  I don't have a blue background that will go with the rest so there is no blue, not unless I can use aqua?  We will see.

As most of you heard, Craftsy has either gotten rid of some designers or cut some of the patterns out of the existing designers.  My patterns were cut down to 2, my Valentine topper and

                                                         placemats for a round table.

These are my best sellers but I did sell other patterns as well and my free patterns went really good.  I was surprised to see the free patterns go, since they did quite well.

Now to decide if it is in my best interest to just quit or try to find a different venue.

I did do etsy but I have my reason for no longer doing so....I might open up again, things remain to be seen.

SAMOAN FABRICS OR HAWAIIAN

I hope all of you have had a wonderful Christmas and hope that the New Year brings much happiness to you.

It is my good fortune to show you these awesome fabrics.  I have a sweet friend in Samoa that recently had a fifth son, she works, and no longer has time to sew.  

She emailed me and asked if I wanted her fabrics.

You don't have to ask twice.  I was on that like a fly on a cow pie.

What I didn't realize was how much.

What I am going to show you is only half of what she sent and she says she has another box.

Was I dreaming?

I am working with these beauties right now.

Can you imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw all of these goodies???

So this is where I was this morning....

 Finally cut out some more and stream lined sewing.

 Here they are all sewn together.

When I am done with the border this quilt should measure 70" x 86".

I have found that I do not like opening the seams.  I would much rather just flip the seam to one side besides I think it gives the quilt more strength.

What I did learn about open seams is that is goes a lot easier if you set your seam first before you iron them open.   Here is a nice tutorial on setting your seams over at Sew Moma sew.

Here is the update on my room......ohhhh la la

Do I hear a WOOT???

All that is left is the trim.  Waiting on my son to finish putting up the trim.  He can make fast work of it but between work and traveling he has not had time.  

 So I have taken over the guest room and yesterday I had all day to play and play I did.

Working with this awesome Samoan Fabric.  I can not get enough of it.

Maybe this is a complaint (okay, no maybe about it) but with all my sewing in boxes it is really difficult to work.  I have been spoiled with all of my rulers and tools.  I go on search and rescue missions and end up making a mess everywhere.  I like my things when I sew, makes it so much easier.  Seems like I have gone back to the first time I started quilting...using the bare minimal of things.

Okay....I will stop whinning but my THINGS miss me.

ARE YOU HAVING FUN?

Don't ask me what day it is because I couldn't tell you, all I know right now is my name and where I am at.....(ha!)

I am presently at my mother's in Louisiana. I drove here yesterday. On my way I stopped off in Longview, TX and visited with Lee (her blog use to be "Quilts by Lee"). It was wonderful to visit with her, there was never a lag in conversation. She is in the process of moving as well. It is so fun to meet the person behind the blog. She was a lot of fun and I know if I lived by her we would be great friends.

On to the next story. Once again, I can' t tell you dates or times but we had been staying at my friend's home in Texas. We have known them from day one of being a married couple. They are older and I am sure you have heard me talk about them. Her husband passed away last year this time.

Well...we were garage sellers and this machine is one that we found and he used in his room.

Talk about heavy.... Dot and I pulled it out the other day, we have plans. She wants to make aprons as Christmas gifts for her kids. She can not see well and so my husband brought her a magnifying glass that attaches to the machine. It helps her some.

This is the apron she made. She is 82 and did a wonderful job. She kept saying "Barbara, I know if you were doing this you would be done by now." My comment back was....."Are you having fun?" She would say yes....and then I would say...that is all that matters.

So....are you all having fun out there?

MAKING HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES. UGLY TOP GIVEAWAY

I finished this quilt yesterday. Oh….how I love the Samoan Fabrics.

As most of you know, I am getting ready to move, I have come across so many unfinished projects that I am truly ashamed.

Here is one that I truly do not like, it annoys me just being around. If you by chance like this, just comment, if there are more than

one taker, I will choose the lucky (unlucky) person tonight. There is the top, without a border, I have included the left over fabric and binding fabric.

Next, I don’t know what I was thinking….

THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD!

Sometimes I feel like the Engine and other times I feel like the caboose. Last week was a caboose week.

I have been working on some special things but I am waiting for a pattern to be proof read, and then Caroll from the Attic Shop Window

and I have been working on a little surprise together. We will showcase that in June and more details will come out in the future.

So a lot of fun things going on….

Today, I have cut out four drunkard paths quilts.

The two blue ones are for twin boys… I have a confession, it is sooo hard to cut into my Samoan Fabrics.

Cut out some houses from the House Die. I will have to be totally honest here, I was not happy with

the size of these cottages. I was hoping for bigger ones.

These measure about 4” in length…. No one asked me, you are right!!! And yes, I should have read the package before buying.

I will make that a mental note for future reference when buying dies. It is cute, don’t you think?

It is wonderful to cut several quilts at a time because it decreases the stash but………………..

(don’t judge me on the organization here…I was rummaging and when I do, it never goes

back the way I had it).

but it increases the scraps…..

So this gal is going to fire up her engines and get busy…..get my big caboose in gear!!!

My husband and son were watching me open packages and they both just shook their heads and my husband said..."As if she needs more fabric".... he is right but I just can't help myself.

In my defense, he is my enabler..... he is the one that takes me to JoAnn's every Saturday, he is the one that makes sure I have enough batting and threads.... How many of you can use an enabler like this????? We will be married 33 years this month.
