Vintage Reimagined - Island Batik Ambassador Challenge for March

First of all, can you believe it is March already?

Island Batik Challenge for the month of March is "Vintage Reimagined."

50" square

As you can see, I used a lot of my Island Batik Scraps.  Some of the 5" strip stash builders I just received in my box.  Perfect for the 8" Go! Qube

I used the Drunkard's path Accuquilt Go die
GO! Drunkard's Path-7" Finished

Making tons of Half square triangles

Some Delightful Hobbs Batting

My favorite color of Aurifil Thread.

Which makes up one vintage reimagined quilt!

When I thought up this design in my head, I just started cutting.  I cut three drunkards path...I showed my husband and one friend that I will not mention HIS name.  Ha Ha!!  Neither one liked this.

I almost threw it in the garbage but then thought, why not continue and just finish it.  When it started coming together I was excited because I really liked what was happening.  I had wanted to make this a two color quilt but when I got this one done I went on to something else.  Sounds about right!

I really enjoyed this challenge, some challenges scare me but when I sit down and think it through, my mind starts churning and then the excitement begins.

TWO QUILTS IN ONE

I told you yesterday how a friend gave me some remnants.  I was able to get some 11" x 3 1/2" strips out of them.   I have had them for  quite a while and in the process of time moved them countless times from one place to another saying one day I am going to do something with these.

So a few days ago I went to my scrap stash (rather large scraps) and cut strips the same size but different lengths.

Then I just started sewing the strips randomly.    I had this yesterday on my post

This is what I got last night.  Reminds me of skittles.

Since I sewed the strips together on the bias I just did another seam as I was sewing and was able to get these half square triangles.

I ironed them all out and trimmed them down to 2 1/2" squares and now I am playing.  I might have enough for a small quilt or a long table runner...

what to do, what to do?

WHAT ONE CAN DO WITH HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES!

This is just a small topper made with Island Batik fabric from the Black Opal SS Grouping.

These two fabrics are just gorgeous......

As you can see, these are just half square triangles.  I cut out 3 1/2 squares of each fabric and sewed around the outside of the fabric on all four sides 1/4 inch.  Then I cut them on the diagonal both ways.  Giving me 4 half square triangles.  Easy...then I trimmed the half square triangles down to 2".

Here is an easy you tube to watch to see how this method is done.

Lots of fun working with these awesome fabrics.

Then a few days ago I finished this flimsy

Fun Huh???

JUST A PUTTERING OVER HERE.

I finally got the fourth row on this quilt using Island Batik fabrics.  Fits nicely on a queen size bed.

Well....I believe I am getting kinda lazy, I am wondering if I should just put the last border on and forget it or should I continue on making it big enough for my king size bed?  Hummmm so that is the question of the day.

I will say that this fabric is soooooooooooooo awesome.  This picture does not do it justice.  also..if you look in the middle of the stars, no middle is the same.  It is amazing what one can do with half squares.

On a side note:  My aunt turns 100 tomorrow and she doesn't even look like it.  She still lives in her own home and for the most part has her senses about her.
