Here is the link to the Video with Ricky Tims showing how to do the one seam flying geese Just click on the highlighted sentence.
Now...gotta give credit where credit is due. Was talking to sister Jeanette, Inchworm Fabrics, she sent me to Ricky Tims video knowing I would love it. Also, ignore her comments about me on her post, I really am the nice sister...truly.
I asked her how she found it and she said our sister Margaret, The average quilter, mentioned it on her blog about finding an easier way to do flying geese.
While I am on the topic of this sister....she is one amazing quilter, she does quilts that I could only dream of doing. Infact, she is doing a quilt to enter in JoAnn's Fabric contest, go over and check it out...amazing...that is all I have to say about that...just amazing.
I wish I had known about this method when doing this quilt....sheweeee!!!
Soooooooooooooooo after seeing the video....I couldn't help but make some and I tell you what...this is so easy and fast, these twelve flying geese were sewn up in record speed. Like Margaret said, the most time consuming part is the ironing....you know how I love to iron...
So I had to make some smaller ones...
Then I had to do something with the 12 flying geese...and I made this cosmetic bag and used my vynl on the inside. The vynl was easy to use and these colors are not the best (wanted to use trial fabrics and just chose these cos it wouldn't bother me if they got messed up)...but I know someone that will love an ugly cosmetic bag.....so no worries.
The night is still young and so, maybe I will make some more flying geese...hummmmmm
or some oatmeal cookies, or both? Remember, you are sleeping when I make this post...so when I am sleeping you will be reading it tomorrow...
Don't forget about the unadvertised giveaway below (if I just told you about it, does it constitute under the heading of unadvertised)?
ya'll are too funny. I saw this on Margaret's blog and was mesmerized by the idea. Of course I have yet to make any. Love your cosmetic bag.
ReplyDeleteMake both! Nothing goes better with sewing than fresh cookies. What a neat method, I forgot all about it.
ReplyDeleteI think the bag is cute. I will have to check out that site later.
ReplyDeleteJust how cool is that?! Wouldn't a wall hanging/memo board be neat made with those flying geese? You could put notes, photos, receipts...all sorts of things in those little pockets!
ReplyDeleteThanks SO MUCH for sharing the flying geese video. I'm over joyed with it. I may be able to make them now. This little measuring method really appeals to me, and I love the little pockets it creates. Made my day!
ReplyDeleteWow, where does all the quilting talent in your family come from? It is amazing that all of you quilt!
ReplyDeleteI've made lots of dimensional blocks but have never thought of using them for making flying geese.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to this cool videos, Barb.
Hugs,
Gerry
Okay...those flying geese are awesome. I like the 3D look to them too.
ReplyDeleteFlying geese is something I would love to be able to do, so I am heading over. thanks to you and your sister for the link. Your flying geese quilt on the bed is stunning, just stunning!!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally do dimensional stuff but what a cool way to make flying geese! :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb, going to go watch the video now.
ReplyDeleteI do believe i have seen this before, but enjoyed the repeat. Great idea. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that idea. I watched and kept thinking that won't work!
ReplyDeleteI also knew about this fast flying geese method and had forgotten it. Watching Ricky Tims demonstrate any quilting process is entertaining.
ReplyDeleteYou're a good woman--reminding us of a great way to save time. Gives us more time to bake cookies. :}
OMG I can see why she wanted an easy way to make flying geese. That quilt is amazing. Piecing is not my thing, but I'm going to go watch that video. Maybe I'll become a piecer after all. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteThank you ever so much for the link. I've always shied away from this thinking it looks so hard.
ReplyDeleteI saw that video a bit ago and fell in love with it. Of course I want to make a brights and black flying geese quilt.
ReplyDeleteCute makeup bag! I will be trying Ricky's way of making flying geese.
ReplyDeleteThe one seam flying geese are way too cute. Add in some dimensional bowtie blocks and it would make a terrific baby quilt. The 3-D effects are so fun.
ReplyDeleteHow cool!! Going to check it all out
ReplyDeleteHi Barb: Eleanor Burns did this in a quilt pattern this passed spring. Easy and so much time saved.
ReplyDeleteOn the mend with my hip and looking forward to sewing again
Great link. Thanks. Did you make some cookies? I am going to bed now. Guess you're still up.
ReplyDeleteLove you geese quilt. Thanks to you and your sister for the link. The easier the better:)
ReplyDeleteLove your wee bag. Did you make the cookies?
ReplyDeleteOh I like that idea of Ricky's! The idea of piecing it traditionally just puts me off ever making a flying geese quilt. This looks so easy though!
ReplyDeleteI checked out your sister's quilt. Isn't it incredible!!
I love this technique! I saw it here a couple years ago & totally love how easy it is!
