DUFFLE BAG
My husband wanted me to make him a bag for his exercise clothes. I had told him that if he just shows me a bag I can make it....so he found this duffle bag at work and well...you see the finished product. I was going to do a tutorial but it was hard when I was in the creating/thinking stage. I will tell you that the diameter of the circles on each end was 10"(grabbed a bowl from the kitchen), the actual body was 31" x 22". I had a 22" zipper. I put the zipper on first. Then I put the straps on, sewed on with zipper open. Then the ends, just like putting in a sleeve...easy...real easy. I think it took me all of 2 hours and that is with the calculating and planning. I will say that you could go 30 inches on the length, I had to ease fabric in when putting the ends on. I tried to stuff the bag to make a nice picture but I didn't do so good...oh well...He is so happy with it and well...I guess I am too. I did this on Saturday.
WOWEEE....you are "Wonder Woman" to be able to look at the bag and zip one out like that. What kind of fabric did you use? I would guess it's probably something sturdier than quilting cotton!
ReplyDeleteOkay...I can see now that it looks like denim......good choice and a nice-looking bag, too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Pat, we are going to call you Wonder Woman. I need a pattern for everything I make. How is your weather? This weekend was glorious, we got what we were looking for
ReplyDeletelooks like it turned out good to me - I know me I wouldn't have the patience for a bag - but I have patience for Dear Jane - weird I know.

You are amazing. I could never do this kind of sewing.
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented! The duffle bag looks amazing and I love that you just looked at one and made your own.
ReplyDeleteWow! If someone asked me to do something like that I would have no idea how to start. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! That is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I am sure he loves it.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed! There is no way I could do that with just looking at one. Way to go, Wonder Woman!
ReplyDeleteBarb, stop posting stuff like that, my husband might see it and want one too! So very clever of you. Wow. And made to order!
ReplyDeleteI'm truly impressed with your ability to make bags of any size AND without a pattern!!! Kudo's my friend,

I'm really impressed with the duffel bag. I always get annoyed (a little) when my husband wants me to do non-quilty sewing. I think sewing pouches for tools out of an old tarpaulin (sp?) was the oddest thing.
ReplyDeleteIf you send me your address I will send you a Kwik Clip for the safety pins. You make so many quilts it's totally necessary.
Cheers!
