LOG CABIN BLOCKS USING MY ACCUQUILT GO LOG CABIN DIE

As some of you know from previous post, I started using my Accuquilt Log Cabin Die to cut up my scraps.  I emptied one tub and one basket.

Here is what I have so far.  Thirteen blocks.  It is great to have them cut out and ready to go.

While traveling 2 hours to see my son and his family I took my fabric with me in their plastic compartments (see post below) and I separated the lights from the darks.  It was taking me so long to get the fabrics I wanted when I was sewing that I took that riding time to do this.  It took me one and a half hours to seperate but I am so glad that I did.

A little note about the log cabin die and the blades coming out.....I have yet to call them.  I did go on their site and leave a message with a picture but I just hate the telephone but I will.....I must get on that phone and call them.

 We have decided that at the first of the month I will post the theme and then Jeanette will post the pictures of the rows when she gets them.  I have to tell ya, these are turning out so cute.

The month of April Island Batik Challenge is to make a square (QUBE) baby quilt using the Accuquilt Go Dies.

This is my inspiration for this quilt.

I have had this design made up for several years but last year I made it with Island Batik fabrics.

I kept thinking that it would make an adorable quilt.  I am talking about the hearts that border the runner.

I used the 5" stash Builders by Island Batik, just perfect for cutting with the Accuquilt Go cutter!

  

So when I received the Accuquilt Go Qube, I saw that it had the half squares and I have the circle die (which is not shown nor included in the 8" cube) would be perfect to make the hearts.

Unfortunately, my circle die grew legs and walked off!!  I used the small circle and cut them in half.

I used the rectangles for the 3 rows of 20 each (sewn together randomly)

Here you see the half square triangles with the half circles on top of them.  I glued them down just a thin strip across the straight edge, just enough to keep it in place while I was sewing....and as you can see, I did not take the half circle all the way to the raw edge.  If you chose to you can just use the whole circle.

Anyways, I sewed the half squares together, in this case, ten half squares to a row, 4 rows.

White Island Batik foundation fabric for the half squares as you can see in the picture above or on the quilt.

A two and a half inch strip x 40 inches long for the half circles to be blanket stitched onto.

 After sewing the 2 1/2" strip to the half squares and the glued half circles, I flipped up the half circles and then blanket stitched.  In this case, I waited until I had the whole quilt top together and just blanket stitched through the top, batting, and backing.

For the complete quilt you will need:

A row of hearts (ten each row) 4 rows

A 2 1/2" strip in between each row (six total)

Then a row of rectangles (20 each to a  row)  (3 rows total)

2 1/2" side border

4" top and bottom border

I did something I have never done before and that was use my embroidery designs on my sewing machine to quilt this quilt.  I used the hearts and the curvy line.

This quilt was so much fun but I have to confess, quilting it using my embroidery designs on my machine took longer than actually constructing the top....still fun

I used Hobbs batting 80/20 Bleached Cotton batting

VALENTINES QUILT AND BLOGGER COMMENT.

I received a comment from a blogger the other day. I can’t tell you exactly what was said, I can’t tell

you if it was a comment or emailed to me directly

I can almost tell you who said it but at the risk of being wrong, (by the way....thanks for the comment)

I won’t. I don’t get paid to remember, maybe if I did, I would???

So the comment was, Barb, when will you finish the Valentines Quilt? Something of that nature…..now….wasn’t this the right kind of push

to get me going in the right direction. To get focused…………………… BECAUSE

Since that message….I just hear WHEN!!!

Go in my sewing room, saw it sitting there…..WHEN!!!!

Go to bed at night…WHEN!!! Driving my son to the airport today, once again the words were ringing my ears…..

So when I got home,

cleaned house, ran a few errands and decided that the time is now!!

Some of you may remember, some of you may be visiting for the first time, and then if you are like me you had forgotten.

To refresh your memory, I took the

insides of the hearts from this table topper

and made a small quilt. Today, I took a running stitch around each heart three times.

Then when I quilted it to the back, I took another running stitch.

Then just did hearts and loops. I did want to say that this quilt is very similar to

Accuquilts Valentines quilt, my hearts are bigger and different. This was not done with the Go cutter. The direction for this quilt is in the pattern for the Valentines table topper, you can find it at Inchworm Fabrics if you are interested.

Tomorrow I will bind it, I will….truly…..but for now my bed is calling me.

Oh...just on a side note, I am thinking of having a giveaway....and it has to do with the experimental Valentines topper that I made. This will only be for those who follow my blog and don't mind a few mistakes....so once I get it bound.....just be ready.
