PATTERN PLAY, SECONDARY PATTERN CHALLENGE

If it wasn't for Island Batik Challenges, I don't think I would be posting but once every quarter.

                                     Life Happens

I have to be honest here, I am doing some things that I can't show but in the same breath my house seems like a hotel.  I no sooner have one guest leave than another one comes.  Nope...not complaining but my door is revolving.  I guess that is one of the perks of having five sons, there is always one coming in the door but so glad they like coming home.  I have one son that gives me a list of food he wants me to cook...so maybe it is not me but my cooking????

That being said, as you see up above the Island Batik Challenge is pattern play, secondary pattern challenge.  Like a block in a block, or you get two different patterns from one.

Here is mine.

                                         DOUBLE DRESDEN DELIGHT
                                                           BY:  Happy Quilting

.                             You can find her wonderful tutorial here:  Double Dresden Delight

                                                                  Here is mine

                                                                   Just a tad different

Mine is a little bigger.  I added another half dresden and the circles in the middle.
I took a vote of six people asking them with the circle or without and only one said without...so the withs won.!!!!!

I did not have any background fabric so I hit my Island Batik stash for neutrals and just pieced together the background.

I used the Foundation Bundle that was sent in the last box with maybe a few extra fabrics.

We all know I am a woman of color and that foundation bundle just hit me right in the heart.

I quilted it on my domestic machine.  I had wanted to hand quilt it but was not able to find a needle that would do the job.  Any suggestions in that area would be appreciated.

I used Aurifil thread #2092, it is a light green, you can barely see it.  I was going to do it in red but I am not a huge fan of red but I am of green.

Below if a list of all of the awesome Island Batik Ambassadors, check out their blog for last months challenge, you will not be disappointed.

  2. I hear you about the revolving doors. It's always great to entertain, but nothing else gets done.

    Your Dresden is so pretty.

  3. I have not been posting either, but I have not been idle. I just have nothing to show at this time.
Hmm....maybe I should come to visit - I do like to eat. ((((grin)))) My list would not be "cook this" it would be more "I don't eat __ and ___ and ___"

  7. Very pretty. Love the colors you used. LOL I do that too when I go home. I ask my mom to make my favorites. My daughters say the same thing, there is nothing like mom's cooking.
