STUFFING AND A FLUFFING!!

In a perfect situation, I would have a long arm to do a quilt 92" x 83" or send it out to be quilted but......

In order not to hear this from my husband....

"Why do I buy you all these machines if you have to send your quilt out to be quilted?"

and...for the mere fact that I am Cheap as the day is long......cheap cheap cheap (that ain't no chicken churping).

So.....this is my set up.

I begins to stuff and fluff..... don't want any kind of drag....this will pull the quilt down and make it hard to quilt.....so I kept on a stuffing and a fluffing!

Yep....you guessed it....more stuffing and a fluffing. I have to tell myself to relax, if you relax while trying to machine quilt things go a lot easier. Just go with the flow....that is what I was telling my self.
I am flowing along....I tell myself that yes, I can finish this because the minute I turn the machine off and fold this quilt up, it will never get done.

So today I was the "Little Engine that Could"......I made myself....was getting grumpier as I had to keep stuffing and a fluffing and sometimes a frogging...yep.....there was a frog in my room keeping time with the chicken....

Now that we are talking about chickens....I so wanted to feather the border, I certainly had a big enough border but.......I have a confession....I was toooo chicken....

As I am taking a picture of this finished quilt (no binding yet), I notice that in between the trees is not quilted.....WHAT!!!!!!!
So...back to stuffing and a fluffing....and after the grumpiness wears down, we will bind this puppy and call it a day.

First I hear some chocolate calling my name......

  7. I don't have room for a set up like that....would be nice. Your results speak volumes, m'dear -- beautiful quilt!

  8. I have to be in the right frame of mind to quilt anything larger than a table runner. I always want to get it done as fast as possible but I can only free motion so long before I turn into a deranged quilter. That is normally the point where I mess up. So it would have taken me 2-3 sittings to get that done. I would have needed more than chocolate if I'd skipped over the tree section :)

  10. I would love to have a set up like. I have to quilt on the dining table and you know what that means. The quilt turned out beautiful! Chocolate I hope makes you feel better. What is your next project?

  11. Dang, you finished one yesterday and almost another one today? You go girl! I find feathers are easier to do either upside down, or sideways. if I try to make mine right side up, like a half a heart shape, they look funky every time. and not the good kind of funky:/ Also, it helps to mark the first few to get the groove. I'm no expert, it is just what has worked for me;)

  13. Congratulation on the finish! That is one big accomplishment to have done it on a regular machine. It is a beautiful quilt that you can now say, "I did every stitch"! You definitely deserve some chocolate. :)

  18. It amazes me what some of you can do on the domestic machines. I love quilting but ahd no patience for the stuff and fluff. At all. Part of me feels it's too messy. I knew I'd never spring for a long armer but was lucky enough to get a great deal and a good present from hubs. I think I've paid for it now by quilting myself instead of sending the quilts out but man, it took a little while. :D

I love your quilt and I love your perserverence just as much!

  23. Good for you stuffing and fluffing! I send my big quilts away to be quilted. I've stuffed and fluffed a few that were twin size but any bigger and I'm not going there! LOL

  24. I give you TONS of credit for this stuffing and fluffing!! I've tried small wall hangings on my little ole Janome and I walk away with sore shoulders and crabbiness to fill a boat. I have admitted that it's just not for me. Good ole Joanne at Splitting Stitches gets my work AND she is cheap, cheap, cheap! LOL! Thanks for sharing your work with us :)

  25. I'm right there with you! Is that the Janome that's "made for quilters"? I've got a Janome 1l000 but have been coveting the quilter one for some time. I'm wondering how it does. blessings, marlene

  28. Stuff and fluff is a great description of home quilting on a domestic machine! Chocolate is a quilter's staple, of course. I like mine spread around pretzels with a candy coating a la Pretzel M&Ms...
