When I am at my mother's I just look around in amazement at the things she has collected. I love her bottles, tins, etc....but there is so much. She asked if I wanted some of her bottles and I was thinking...are you kidding me....I have enough junk of my own. I just chuckle to myself as I unpack each item and say to myself....I am my mother's daughter....I am my mother's daughter.....is that so bad? I love my play pretties. There is enough counter space in the kitchen to where I can have them out and maybe interchange them occasionally so I can enjoy them.

I just wanted to thank all of you for your comments, sorry I have not been answering them, when stressed, I shut down......so maybe when the house is in order I will start commenting again...but don't give up on me....I WILL BE BACK!!!!

We've written before about how much we both take after our mothers with our love of china. How delightful that she has shared some of her gems with you!!!

Gracious!! What's up with all the fabric boxes?!? It's kinda scary and kinda wonderful (knowing they're filled with fabric) all at the same time!! :)
ReplyDeleteBarb, I can so relate to this. We just finished a BIG move and it really took it's toll on me. I have not sewin a stitch since February and I am so itching to sit down and play. Take it stride and know your not alone!

ReplyDeleteI used to collect china. It was one of my weaknesses. Before I passed it on down, I had over 6 sets of fine china!
Your china is so pretty!! And there is nothing wrong with having lots of pretties to look at!!!

Barb, I would never give up on you!! And I would take those home in a minute, so pretty. Try to enjoy the un-packing. I bet you will find things you forgot you had and things to give you new ideas.

Hope you can get organized soon! The biggest thing I hate about moving is having to pack and unpack! It seems to take forever and a day! The last time we moved I had over 300 boxes and that did not include all the tubs I used to pack in as well!

ReplyDeleteReminds me of when I moved from TX back to the East coast!! Every box had books packed in the bottom and fabric boxes outnumbered every other box 4 to 1!!

ReplyDeleteSadly the sight of all those boxes is too familiar to me. I have moved 6 times in the last 3 years and after moving my son into his apt in August I have to think about moving again. Just makes me tired thinking about it. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you with all that unpacking.

ReplyDeleteOh, I am not my mother's daughter. My daughter should be....I am truly quite minimalistic. I now have no place to put any of the collections that one would have, so my daughter was only too happy to be the keeper of the memories of her grandmother. But, I do love tea services, have them in miniature. Packed away for now, but I do have them. My granddaughter (daughter's) is more like me, keeping it simple. I envy those that do though.

I have a few of my mothers pretties and I now love them more, knowing how many special memories she had with them and how much pleasure they brought to her. Enjoy. Love your dishes! Of course you are your mother's daughter. My daughter made raspberry jam yesterday and she blames that on me because I used always make jam. Go figure.
