Since then I have been thinking of doing a cover for my toilet paper. My mind was always in the toilet. I finally came up with a cover and here it is and how I did it. This is for the bigger roll.
First I auditioned several items in my kitchen.....as you can see I am very professional about this.
This bowl won hands down.
I flipped the bowl upside down and traced around it. For those wanting to make one, you will need a circle that is 6 1/2 inches in diameter.
This cover I used some heavy pellon, so I ironed it on.
You need two circles (both have pellon on the back), you will place these wrong sides together and quilt.
Then I needed a piece of fabric ten inches wide and 20 1/2 inches long
Fold in half, the fold will be the bottom (no hemming needed), I quilted both top and bottom.
Then I trimmed down the long strip to 4 1/2 inches, so the end results is 4 1/2 " by 20 1/2".
For me, it was easiest to put the circle on top and just ease it around the strip. I also found that you do not need to use heavy pellon, regular batting will do just fine and is so much easier to work with.

So....I leave a little extra on the end before I start sewing the circle on...I go around the top about 1/4 " from the edge. When I get pretty close to the end, I stop. As you see below, I match up both ends and sew down the side seam. After that seam is sewn, I just put my fabric back in the machine and close up the hole.
I did use an over lock stitch for this cover on the inside. I used the Accuquilt Go Heart die for this. When I downloaded this cover on Accuquilt's facebook site someone asked if I was doing the "Cover your roll challenge".....I hadn't heard of it, I have now and have entered. I have provided the link for you if you are interested in joining the challenge.

What good is a toilet paper cover is you don't have a tank topper to go with it.... Talk about having fun....OHHHHHH BOY!!!
You think I need to make a lid topper?
So I thought the green was kinda boring, so I put this ruffle on it. My suggestion is, if you want to do a ruffle, do it before you have the cover completed (I am just saying).
Oh yes....it needs a tank topper too.... Got out the trusty embroidery machine, looked on the net for a toilet to put on it and well....the rest is history. I got the embroidery design at Embroidery Designs.com, they have a lot of free designs as well.
These look dull but trust me, it is vibrant and well....I am tickled green....maybe I can get my mind out of the toilet now...well..maybe lid covers are in order. If you are interested in the tank topper and lid covers, you will find the pattern at Inchworm FAbrics.
I did finish this...(colors look pathetic).
Hmmm your whole blog is going in the toilet huh? Ha ha just kidding!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a creative mind.
Tres chic!
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful weekend ~

Thanks for the tutorial. I noticed you posted the pictures on the Flickr groups as well. May I hard your tutorial link to the official Dress up Your Roll Page?
ReplyDeleteBarb that is such a great idea!,,,
ReplyDeleteGreat projects! You have so much fun creating and pick such pretty fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYour roll covers are great! I can't believe someone is actually hosting a competition for these. I will have to go over and see what everyone comes up with.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Barb. This is a great project and your tutorial is awesome and well thought out.
ReplyDeletehaha--those are so cute! maybe I can adapt that pattern for the roll cover to make my son a dispenser for his personal paper.. long story a few posts back on my blog. ;) I love your 'down the toilet' post and your projects look great! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of TP covers is very clever. I saw the Cottonelle offer, but set it aside and never found it again. I like the idea of a topper and matching TP cover for all seasons. Thanks for the tut.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Goodness, you have been busy. Love your ideas. You are so creative. Hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Yours are really nice, congrats on finishing the quilt binding!
ReplyDeleteGee, I use Cottonelle TP and didn't see the offer for the tins! I love your little cover...you are sooo clever, my friend, and always coming up with great ideas and patterns! I love the fabrics you chose for both of your lid toppers and TP covers!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Cyndi
Very nice! You are all set for Valentine's day and St. Patrick's day. Are you going for Easter next?
ReplyDeleteOMG that set is ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! Your "audition" is hilarioud, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI have to say thanks also for the idea of leaving the opening when sewing the circle to the side panel of the roll cover. I sell monogrammed wine sleeves and have always sewed the short edges of the panel together and then fitted that to the circle. It is HARD to get it to fit perfectly, no matter how accurately it's cut.
Great work!
You have been a busy gal making all these cute projects ,love the toilet tissue roll covers !
ReplyDeleteGene is too funny! I would like to see you have gone off the deep end but your projects look wonderful. They brighten up a usually boring space and that's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove your professionalism :-). Love your toilet stuff too! (Eeps, that didn't come out right, did it? Lol)
ReplyDeleteYour toilet toppers are just fabulous Barb and the matching roll covers are truly special. You are making really lovely things and a great tut too :) hugs Vicki x
