LET THE STONING COMMENCE!!!

OH YES...just grab a stone for when you hear what I have to say you may want to stone me.

So....yesterday morning I decided to go to Hancocks to match some thread I need for finishing up a quilt and to buy some backing fabrics.

I am driving down the freeway and I hear this sound like a helecopter.....finally I realize that I have a flat tire. DUHHHHHHH....

When I tell you that I know how to get a flat...trust me....I did good.

Here is where the stoning comes in.....I am a woman in distress....it is soooo freezing outside my teeth are chattering. No one, I mean NO ONE stops to help me.

If I were in Texas, cowboys would come out of the wood work!

In Amerika Samoa I broke down and 3 hunking Samoans stopped and practically picked my truck up and moved it out of traffic.....now was that a sight!!

I am just saying....I don't think anyone has ever been stoned for speaking the truth but there will always be a first. My husbands boss told him later that he was not surprised that no one stopped...they just don't here....okay...I can accept that....each man for himself...

So my night in shining armor shows up in a pathfinder.....oh yes, my man (main squeeze, sugar daddy), he dropped everything to rescue me. Isn't he handsome????

There is no tire iron, the tire was completely blown out....took us two hours to take care of this car....and I am still without wheels. But...I have my man...
never did he complain about the inconvenience, the cold or just getting over a sickness....

I am glad I stayed up til 1:30 yesterday morning making cinnamon rolls for his office meeting today....I don't feel quite so bad.

Leaving on a good note...here is a different kind of wheat dish, I have about four of these... All the dishes except for the china did I buy at one place, it was over four years.

Also, for reason I can not say, there is a silver lining and next week if I remember, I will tell you the silver lining to my flat tire. I feel very blessed and I do use that term because the flat happened to day of all days of all days...will just leave it at that!

  1. I'm glad that at least you had a phone to call that knight of yours. I'm surprised that no one stopped, up here we certainly would have stopped. Hope every thing is working out.

  2. Wait, no one stopped!! That is just not right. It is so nice to have someone so special in your life. That is how I feel about my hubby too!
I just got chills when I saw your wheat plate, is it yellow? I believe my Mom had those when I was little! Thank you for the memory.

  3. Well, you won't see any stones flying from my direction! I am so sorry that you had this trouble and that nobody would stop to help...but who knows if you can trust the one person who might have? I am also very proud of your hubby for being the dear man that he is, we are both very lucky to have our guys! Now go get a new st of tires, a tire iron and make sure you have a good spare so if you have another blow out AAA can show up to help and can get you back on the road again...hmmm, isn't there a song about that?! LOL. Glad you are safe and sound at home. Hope you get back to the fabric shop without another mishap. Oh, I had a flat tire last summer - while parked in my garage! LOL. Actually it was a spike picked up in a road construction area that caused the repairable flat.

  4. Yeah, that probably wouldn't happen in Texas. People really go out of their way for you down here in the south. I'm glad there was a silver lining somehow.

    Happy trails,
    Susan in Texas

  5. Gosh, I'd like to think I could get help here if I got a flat. I take it you had your cell phone?

  6. Sounds like a mystery! But I am glad you are safe and that there is still a knight in shining armour to come rescue you. How strange I would find it if no one stopped to help....People just DO that here!

  7. Sorry no one stopped for you. You'd have had a half dozen people help you out over the bridge, here in Maryland. :)

  8. You live in NORTHERN Virginia. If you lived in SOUTHERN Virginia someone would have stopped. Thank goodness you had your own man to come and help you!!

  9. As my mother would have said, 'Bless his heart'.

  10. Barb thank you for sharing your story. It is sad that people no longer stop to help a stranger because I think they are scared. So much has happened now aways and people are petrified. Thank goodness you were able to get a hold of your husband and that you are safe.

  11. Wow how crazy no one stopped?? Glad there's a silver lining!!

  12. People don't stop to help here either and we don't have any snow. There are a rare few who will stop to see if you're OK but they are very few and far between. After saying that I do have to mention that my son (22) stops for anyone women who is stranded. He has changed many flat tires for damsels in distress over the past 6 years. We are so proud of him.

I think some people don't care or notice and others are just scared. We had a big scam going on a few years back. A younger girl would be at the side of the road with her hood up. Sometimes she would pretend to be pregnant. When you stopped to help a young guy would show up and rob you and steal your car. I'm pretty sure no sane person would try that in the freezing cold and snow though.

  13. In these days where everyone has a cell phone, people assume that you can get the help you need. AAA roadside assistance is the way to go. It gives me a feeling of comfort knowing that I can always get someone to help if I'm ever stranded. Usually my hubby comes to my rescue too, but sometimes he is not available. Glad to hear your DH was near by. Karen

  15. ACK nothing worse than having a flat and no one will stop, thus I learned to do it myself and I always make sure I have a good jack and tire iron in my cars.

  16. I have to agree with Betsy that people are scared. I would be scared if someone stopped to help me. The world is just not a safe place anymore. That man of your's is definitely a keeper and I bet he loved those cinnamon rolls.

  17. I think society is just not what it used to be. I drove my little car (years ago) over a parking block..totally stuck, daughter so embarrassed till four college guys came up and lifted the front end off the block....oooooooh mama!
You should have moved south! here in Ontario, it's about the same, country folk are much friendlier.

  18. Sorry to hear of your tire problem. Not nice! Glad your knight was there to save you! I don't know if anyone would stop here. They used to, but I was younger (and prettier) back then. My daughter was stranded on a cold snowy day last year. She phoned me and made me stay on the line with her because so many strangers stopped to help her.

  19. Hurray for your hubby. These days you have to be careful who stops to help anyway. I am glad you are okay.

  20. I know that feeling. Here in the Keys, last time I needed help, I had so much within 5 minutes. My girlfriend who was with me said she never wants to break down without me. LOL. When I needed help in big city Miami, the only person who pulled in was police telling me I had to move the car. I like small towns.

  21. I'm sorry no one stopped for you. Here, I would like to think that people would help if they could. Mostly, I just get AAA, (or that type of insurance from the insurance company) then I don't have to be worried about strangers helping.

  22. Good thing you had a cell phone to call your knight in shining armour. I stood on the road way at rush hour once when I was pregnant -- it took ten minutes for someone to stop (we didn't have cell phones then). At least it was warm.

  23. So sorry no one stopped. But, what a wonderful "knight" you have. Glad you are safe! Nola

  24. I'd say he is a keeper!!!! I can't imagine no one stopping to help.

Now, I can't wait to hear the "rest of the story".

  25. I am so glad you have a "Knight" to rescue you when you are in dire straights.

  27. So sorry that you had a flat. But aren't we lucky to have those knights in shinning armor. Hope he doesn't have a relapse those are not fun.

  28. Have to agree with Susan.. if it was down here in S Va we would have helped ya.

  29. At least nobody bad stopped! Lucky for you to have a Knight - I have to call an auto service, and they cost more than cinnamon rolls:)

  30. I'm so glad to hear there is a silver lining and you are OK! It's amazing how fearful people are now days to helping a stranger. Just sad really. I giggled at your "main squeeze" and all his pet names....I almost felt like that might have been TMI :) The cinnamon rolls definitely made up for his time :)

  31. What a drama for you! Don't know that I would have coped as well as you especially when you add in the weather! Glad you are ok and look forward to hearing about that 'silver lining'.

  32. I'm so sorry to hear you had this happen. I'm tired and a bit confused about your knight in shining armor. I do agree that there are many in Texas always willing to help. I've been stuck on the side of the road in So. Cal. for hours.

Ok. I'm probably distracted that you live near hancocks. HANCOCKS. You didn't disclosed this before. Lucky you.

  34. Last winter I broke down in a very rural area, on a very very cold day. The temps were around 10 degrees. No one stopped. The state highway patrol passed me--get this--twice!!!

My husband works for the state DOC...you can bet he sent some emails the next day...but in the mean time, he had to leave work and drive an hour and a a half to get to me to help me. He would have had to anyway, but it would have been nice to have a bit of help getting me to a warmer place until he could get to me. I was very pregnant at the time as well.

Well, tell us the silver lining if you remember ;)

  35. Man Alive Barb, lucky your hubby came to the rescue....when I had a flat.....I rang my hubby and he would not come and help me....I walked to the local Stonemasons...Harry was my night in shining armour....we were unable to get the spare out ....it was jammed in so tight....Harry had a four wheel drive...with this magic can of stuff and inflated my tyre...so I could go to the tyre repairman....hmmph travelling home on the highway who should I pass yes DH...do you think he might have had the rounds of the table ...you betcha....hugs lyn
