Look at the room in this puppy!!! I just had to show you the work space this machine provides. In fact, I did this whole quilt from one side to the next instead of flipping it over to provide more room under the throat to work.
This quilt was a breeze..... No bunching in the back, No thread messing up or breaking. My husband chose the backing fabric...notice I have one corner flipped so you can see....
This machine is alittle intimidating because of it size and newness to me but I think we are going to have a very loving relationship.
Mr. Pfaff might be a little jealous. I sold Daddy Pfaff.... You all know how much I love my Pfaff, it purrrrrrrsssss like a kitten.
Now as far as the Horizon....it is noisy....I thought it would be much quieter. Maybe I have it threaded wrong, or something. I am not saying it blast you out of the house, I am just surprised it doesn't purrrrrrrr, it meows...
The stitch is beautiful. Like all machines, it will take time to discover just exactly what it can do. My main desire was to be able to quilt with ease and this machine does it......if I don't sound too excited it is because like I said above, it is intimidating....kinda scares me and as I am sewing I am too busy comparing instead of enjoying the process... I have read good reviews and a few bad about this machine so I guess I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Maybe it is the space I am working in...very cramped...but I will ask you this...
GOT ANY QUILT TOPS?????
I also did two mug rugs (just need binding), if my husband wasn't sleeping, I would get my camera out....you think he would notice the flash????
Barb,I know what you mean. My Huskquarna makes so much noise compared to my Berninas but it does stitch well.
ReplyDeleteGlad your enjoying your new machine!
ReplyDeleteQuilt is pretty!
When my machine meows it needs some oil.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are able to do some sewing while you are waiting for your house.
ReplyDeletehmmm, noisy? Maybe Mr. Big was trying to tell you about all the wonderful things he is capable of doing. Cute quilt.
ReplyDeleteHusbands generally sleep thru anything!
ReplyDeleteI love that you can machine quilt so beautifully. I have not learnt to do so - so I hand quilt!
Love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteYes I think the flash would have him on his feet in a flash!
Hi Barb, I'm surprised at the noise, I have a 6600 and it gets noisy when it needs to be cleaned, but that can't be with your brand new machine. Have you read other people mentioning the noise?
ReplyDeleteTake the picture, then hide the camera. Flash, what flash?
So glad you're able to spend some time sewing. I'll be interested in what you have to say about your new machine - I'm looking for a new one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure after you get past the newness you will just love your new machine. All that extra throat space must be heaven :0)
ReplyDeleteCrispy
Yay! I was hoping you were enjoying your machine. I sew in a VERY cramped space so I know how you feel. I have some quilt tops, shall I send them to you? LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh yes I have quilt tops about 15 or so that need quilting. Your wall hanging is beautiful, I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! You might need to have the machine checked. My Bernina gets very noisy when she is dirty. After I clean out the "fluff" she is quiet again. She usually lets me know when she needs to be serviced.
ReplyDeleteI am sure there is a great learning curve from one machine to the next. You will have it purring in no time.
ReplyDeleteSomebody is having a lot of fun well into the wee hours of the morning, huh? Seems that your new machine shouldn't be growling already...something to check on I suppose. Oh! No flashing hubby, he'll never get any rest if you start doing that - ha! :-D
ReplyDeleteCute quilt. How fun you are able to set up shop while you wait. My husband, a brass band could march through and he would not move!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your machine, take your time and if you need quilt tops to play with, oh man do I have them!
My gosh, there is NO ONE like you! You are totally amazing...quilting in a hotel! U an blown away. The quilt is adorable and I am sure you and your new machine will fit like a glove before long.
ReplyDeleteI am still down but can call a neighbor if I need anything. Thanks.
I see you're having fun with that new toy. Enjoy!! Hugs
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have a new machine and that he can visit you in your room!
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out that machine in shop around here; it looks like it does fabulous work (with your guidance, of course). Also, could you show us more of that Samoan fabric? Karmen
ReplyDeleteMy 6600 makes a little more noise than my 11000 but I just keep plugging. When I was doing my hand quilting I did it on the bed with the light directed on top and my husband slept right thru it - it's a man thing
ReplyDeleteI love Mr. Big's neck. Beautiful quilt. Such fun.

So glad you were able to get your new machine up and running. Imagine how much fun you will have when you can FINALLY settle into your new space. Adorable quilt, hope you find enough sewing to keep you busy.
ReplyDeleteYou want quilt tops? I got quilt tops! How many do you want to "practice" on--five? six? ten? That's great! Just give me your address.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm so glad you like the machine. And that you have it at this challening time. Sewing machine = Sanity.
i have the exact same snowmen panel-i love it
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl!!! My Janome 6600 is noisy, too, so maybe it is the brand, but it sews well and I am pretty noisy, too. So I can't condemn it for that!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have had a lot of fun!! Love your "Planning ahead". You are one good quilter!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking good.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are having fun with your new Horizon. I waaannntt one.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your skills will suffer no lag when you finally get your sewing room set up in the new house! That is a really cute quilt. I'd love to have that much throat space--my Husqvarna has a tiny space compared to that!
ReplyDeleteHow great that you have already been able to make a quilt using your new baby. Although I suppose really he's a bit to big to be a baby? Learning a new machine is always scarey at first but I'm sure you'll settle down really quickly with him.
ReplyDeleteWOOHOOO BARB!!! How exciting! The quilt looks wonderful!! And I don't think hubby would have notice d the flash, if he didn't wake up with the sound of the sewing machine going :)
ReplyDeleteBarb...love your quilt and your new machine. Janome ones tend to be a little more noisy....and they like to be kept clean..very often.
ReplyDeleteGlad you bought her.
I am so excited for you Barb that you got to explore your new machine. Its a shame it meows and doesnt purr tho. I would have thought for the price it is that Janome would have made them to be quiet. I dont like noisy sewing machines and my Janome was making a heck of a noise a while back...so I dropped a single drop of oil into the bottom of the bobbin case and its lovely and quiet again. But a new machine shouldnt be that noisy. Love your quilt too :) hugs Vicki
ReplyDeleteHave fun figuring out your new machine!!! Your work looks beautiful!!
