WITH A NEW BED, COMES A NEW QUILT

Here is a quilt that I have done before but smaller.

My husband and I keep our little grandson often. 

He has outgrown his little play pen.

So we purchased him a little bed.

With a new bed comes a new quilt.

I wanted the quilt big enough to go over the sides but I forgot about the rails on the side.

I love this little design, it makes up really fast.

I used my Accuquilt go Train die.

I wish I had the Accuquilt Go alphabet die, maybe one day.

Now to make a pillowcase that matches it.

So fun seeing all of this come together.

FROM SCRAPPY TO HAPPY

 I have two tubs and one basket of scraps (shamefully).  This one tub you see here are Island Batik scraps.  It is almost to the point of overflowing.

I have been so busy with my mother this week that sewing is almost impossible besides I had to order some more backing for my Island Batik Sept. Challenge.....
So I decided to do something that I could put down and come back to without much thought.

What you see above is all those scraps ironed.

Yep...IRONED!!

Here are three stacks from 2", 1", 2 1/2", and 3"...as you can see some need to be cut down...you can't cut up....only down.  

                   Some   2 1/2 " squares....it doesn't look like much but  this stack stands 3" high.

                                             
                                                          Then this mound of scraps.  I am trying to decide if I should just leave as is or if I should cut them down in strips and squares????  It feels good to have them semi organized....notice the word semi.

QUILT AS YOU GO ISLAND BATIK AUGUST CHALLENGE (QAYG)

                                          

                                            As stated above, this month is QAYG challenge.

We have some amazing Island Batik Ambassadors, we even had a few do their QAYG on their longarm, can you believe that?

Here is mine

Since the challenge said 36" x 36" or larger, I cut out the backing and batting at 36" x 36", sometimes life calls for just doing enough.
                                                                     


                                          I found this Bumble Bee in Quilt World, April 2008.

 I blanket stitched through all three layers of fabric at the last.  I like doing this in a lot of my toppers and wall hangings, saves on quilting and time.

I think seeing this now, I would have done things differently.  Trust me, this sat for days.

I did the flip and stitch by taking my 2 1/2" strip and placing it right side down and stitch.

Then I flip it over and iron down.

             Sorry for the horrible picture.  I continued to flip and stitch the top and bottom.

As you can see I just continued going around the square, doing the sides first, then top and bottom...in that order.

I was at this point two weeks ago.....it sat at the thinking stage.  I had so many ideas but today I said...just DO IT!!!!  GET ER DONE!!!  So I threw away the ideas in my head and just continued on.

I used several greens for the binding, a few parts of this binding were left overs from other quilt bindings.

Notice this wall hanging below.  This is one example where I blanket stitched through all layers of the quilt to save on time and had to use very little quilting.

Here is another one of my toppers that I blanket stitched through all layers of fabric so that it needed very little quilting.  I actually like the look on the back when I am done.  This topper is 30" x 30".

I think I bit off more than I could chew for this challenge but I love how it is turning out.  Actually it has been sitting for a few months but with Sept right around the corner I best get busy.  When finished this quilt will be a king size quilt.  I have the border left to put on then I need to get busy and quilt it.  Lucky for me my blog hop day is not until the end of Sept.

WORKING WITH RAYON

            As some of you may know, we received 2 1/2 yards of rayon fabric from Island Batik.

                                              Here is the fabric that was sent to me.

I had actually thought about starching it up real good, still might.

In the mean time, this is what I am working on between keeping my man fed, mowing the lawn, and putting up a fence....a three acre fence.

FABRIC AND MORE FABRIC!!!!!!

The fun part about being an Island Batik Ambassador is twice a year we get the most fantastic fabrics ever!!

This box is no exception!

Notice the black fabric to the right?  That is rayon, I have an idea of what I am going to make with it....so stay tuned.

Aren't these fabrics just out of this world?  These are the Fall/winter collection of 2017!

My husband and I have been putting fence up in the pasture....oh my stinking gosh, I have not worked this hard in forever.  I have bruises, cramped hands, and aching bones and in 103 degree weather to boot.  I have to admit, I do love helping him.

Today we were putting post in the ground for more fencing but lucky me we had a son come to help.  My job is tying the fence to the metal post...I can do that!!!  Once I got the hang of it, it went pretty quick.....

I am so glad that a few months ago I had some free time to get some sewing done because the month of July is practically nil in that department.

My daughter in law came to stay a month, my son and his wife came with baby Gene for a few days (they came sick, when they left, they were well but I was sick).  Poor me....for a week and a half I was no good to anyone.

Now we have our grandson....no complaints here.

But........in the meantime I found these awesome Cancer Awareness Ribbons....can I say AWESOME!!!

What is even more AWESOME is that they are free!!

I have found that my machine loves Gutterman, Connecting Threads, Aufil, and some Superior Threads.  These threads are the only ones that will allow me to leave the room.  How else can I get these done????

Aren't these gorgeous?  After each one I go...oh I love this one too!!!

I am doing eight of each.  There are eight designs.  I still have two more designs to do and four of another one...so almost there!!!

I am trying not to use the same thread twice.  My other threads I have to sit and watch them for breakage.

 I have actually come to the conclusion that I need 50 wt threads so it isn't the name brand it is the weight.  I keep saying I am going to take the time to learn about threads...have I???  NOPE!!!

I love these designs, Craft Stitch has done a wonderful job digitizing them.  I hope you have a chance to go over and check out their other designs.

Now in case you are wondering if I got my husband's Chicken quilt done....NOPE>>>>NADDA...we are going to shoot for Christmas...HA!!!

Still don't have my Sept project for Island Batik finished...the border is still waiting....

Also, it is hotter than Haties here in Texas, only go out if you have to.

FREE TUTORIAL ON HOW TO MAKE A PINWHEEL OUT OF THE SUN BONNET SUE Dress USING YOUR ACCUQUILT GO CUTTER.

This month's theme for Island Batik Ambassadors is:

                                                     What a combo, what fun!!

                                                  enough of the hype...already!

This is my baby quilt for the Month of July, using my Island Batik scraps and my sun bonnet Sue die.

                                                       ---------------------------------

                     You need about a 10" square of fabric (preferably Island Batik) (shamelessly smiling here).    Put your fabric adhesive of choice on the wrong side of fabric.

                                                                            Fold it in half.

                                                               Fold in half again.

Then you take the folded edge as you see above and place  it between the top of the Sun Bonnet Sue Dress.  Cut...

This is what you get.  Iron on to ten inch square and blanket stitch down.  You will need nine of these.

Now you can put a small circle in the middle of the pinwheel or leave it alone as I have done.

Then I took the cut out and placed it on my printer at 45% to get the smaller pinwheel.  You will need 28 of these (sorry, you have to cut these out by hand, be sure to put your fabric adhesive on the back before cutting out).

You will need six 10" x  3" for the sashings between the rows.

As you can see, you have three pinwheel rows with a sashing between the three squares in each row.

Next you will measure your rows and come up with the length you need for the sashing going across.

You will need Two  28 1/2" x 3" for the sashings going across (your measurement might be different).

For the first border you will need two 1 1/2" strips measuring 28 1/2" for the top and bottom,

29 1/2" for the sides.

The last border 4" x 29 1/2" for the top and bottom,

4" x 33" for the sides (remember to always measure your quilt from top to bottom for the side borders and across from side to side for the top and bottom borders, we all sew differently).

Then you will place your pinwheels in between each square as shown on the sashings.

Then seven on the top and bottom and five on the sides.  Starting from the middle and working out centering them as you go.  Blanket stitch them down.

Quilt as desired.

Bind.
