NEEDLE INTERVENTION

Actually this is a pin

Look at it real close

Look at it again!

Now imagine this in your foot!

OUCH!!

Well....this was what was in my foot.  It happened Tuesday afternoon.  It was almost an inch long.

I thought I could get it out myself.

I soaked the foot

I used the ointment that is suppose to draw it out.

I walked around on the side of my foot for days.

This is where my stubborness comes in.  I just knew I could get it out.

My husband even tried to dig it out.  We used a numbing spray.

Finally this old goat gave up and went to the Dr.

FRIDAY!!!

Now don't go and say that about me.

Not very nice.

I have to tell you that I just figured it was like a splinter and you know how it festers up and just shoots out.  Well...I guess all that soaking kept it from festering.

Needless to say an hour on the table....who knows how many numbing shots later
It finally came out.

My poor husband.  The first round of shots to the foot almost had me throwing up, I don't believe I felt that kind of pain in a long time.

The second round of shots had me squeezing my husband's hand and sleeve.  Oh my stinking gosh...could it hurt anymore?

Finally after the third round of shots, a scalpel, and the determination of the doctor it came out.

He said he if could not get it out he was going to send me somewhere where
it would be surgically removed...I thought that was what he was doing.

So....I was very grateful the ordeal was over and Life is good.

This barefoot gal is now going to wear shoes in her sewing room....don't ever want to go through that again!!!!!

  1. I've had a few foot procedures at the podiatrist's office that required numbing injections. They are the worst, but nothing compared to the pain I would have had without them. My sympathies, and yes, shoes are the answer. I've never seen a pin quite like that. Is it broken off?

  2. Oh, Barb! How awful for you. I just can't imagine. Glad that ordeal is over and you're on the mend! XO

  3. OMG Barb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sorry you had to go through all that pain and agony. I think you've inspired all of us to never go barefoot in the place where we do our sewing. Fortunately for me, I have problem feet, and can't go without shoes, or I could have encountered a needle or two along the way. Unfortunately for you, it was a very painful lesson learned, but am happy that ugly thing is out of your foot. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net

  4. I'm not sure stubborn covers it, LOL, but I probably would have been the same way. I'm not sure I would resort to shoes though.

  6. OMGosh...I have a HUGE fear of just this kind of thing! My mother used to yell at me all the time when I lived at home if she found a pin on the floor telling me if it goes in your body it will go straight to your HEART!! When you are young and told this so many times it becomes a fear.

Glad you got through it OK. It would have been horrible if it had gone to your HEART!!! Now THAT would have been really badder pain, LOL

  7. I dropped a 60mm rotary blade on the carpeted floor one time and then stepped down on it.(It stood up on it's edge in the carpet!) Nice cut across the bottom of my foot that required 14 stitches to close. Took the blade with me to Urgent Care and they saved it to pass around while they told everyone about my foot! Yup...those needles hurt. Cleaning out the cut hurt and the stitches hurt anyway! Still go barefoot.

  9. I was sewing a small pouch yesterday and broke a needle going over the zipper. One piece shot out and "disappeared" - all I could think of was that I didn't want that to end up in my foot. (and I am a barefoot boy most days at home.) I took the bottom off the machine which prompted a machine cleaning but I couldn't find it. Finally, I found it - halfway across the room. OUCH, that could have been in my foot.

I am so sorry you had that happen. I think those numbing shots are worse than anything! Take care!

  10. Wowie Ouie. I really would have thought the soaking would have helped. Sorry you had to suffer, but glad to know it is out. Hope you feel 100% better very soon.

  11. EEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWWEEEE. Your one tough cookie to go thru that for days! I kept my pin from my wrist for a commemorative quilt. Maybe we should collaborate on one! LOL

  12. I am right there with you. No running around in socky feet for me either. I at least am wearing my slippers, even though they are sheeps wool and make my feet stinky. Stinky feet over broken toes, or a needle/pin in the foot. Now maybe socks with the rubber on the feet would be good, but no protection from the needles or pins. Feet up and here's to us!

  14. Ouch! I try to be so careful but sometimes pins/needles sneak out and are found places they shouldn't be. I never go barefoot for that very reason! blessings, marlene

    1. Ouch! I always wear slippers because my feet are usually cold. Also I have cats, one of which "helps"me by pulling out the pins. So I have to use those flat head pins and a magnetic pin cushion. Those pins have colored tops so they're easy to spot when dropped on the carpet or hardwood floor. Hope you are recovering quickly.

  16. Oh my goodness, so glad it is out of your foot and without more complications. I don't like shoes, but it is a necessity for us sewing gals. Take care my sweet friend.

  17. Good grief Barb!!! That looks really long. I'm so glad you finally went to the doctor's. I would have tried to get it out myself as well, before going to the doc's. Take care my friend!!

  19. Oh dear, that sounds terrible! Glad it is over. I stepped on a straight pin and it went through the side of my toe, but, I was able to pull it back out. We should all be more careful with our pins and needles!

  20. I am so sorry but I am laughing so hard. You have a very funny delivery especially the line about the old goat. I know what happened is not funny. Glad you're OK.

  21. Oh no!!! That is awful Barb...I'm so sorry that happened to you. A needle in the foot is absolutely no fun. I just so happen to know about foot and ankle pain that would make one throw up and pass out....unfortunately. I have compassion for ya girlfriend! So glad your husband could be there for support.
    Hugs,
    Kelly
