Who Says You Can't Go Back?

A while ago I was sitting in church listening to everyone sing, I was transported back to Amerika Samoa where the sound of their singing was pure heavenly.

I was sad because I knew that I would never be back there, never see the beautfiul mountain, ocean, or my wonderful friends.

Was I ever wrong. It wasn't a few weeks later that my husband comes home and says he has to go To Samoa for work. My heart soared but I also knew it was a great expense to take me.

I told him I would stay home but he said, there was no way he was going without me.

Then I talked to a wonderful friend who said that this chance may never pass this way again and my son told me that as well....so here I go.

 Flying again

I know I said I would never fly again (I made myself out to be a liar).

It didn't take long for news to circulate on that island about me coming (I didn't help much

either...HA!!!)

Here is the tote I did yesterday for a friend who wants me to bring it with me.  She wants a matching cosmetic bag but....

Wasn't too motivated so I just read a book.

I read a book when I have a ton of things to do, what is up with that?

The Tree of Life quilt needs attention and I read a book!!

A friend also asked me to teach a class on "Sewing for Profit", so I am trying to come up with ideas for that. I am also trying to keep the supplies to what they can find on the island. So if any of you have suggestions and pattern (not breaking copyright) can you let me know. We leave this Thursday...not looking forward to the flight but what is new?

  1. How fun to go back to Samoa! I do the same thing...sit and read when I've got lots of other stuff to do. I always think the other stuff will still be there waiting for me when I get done with my book! :0)

  3. De-lurking to say that I am so excited for you! I can only imagine how much you miss your friends (and the scenery) over there! Can you take a handwork project with you to keep you company during the LONG flight? A good book? I'd be dreading the flight as well. I'm miserable on any flight over 2 hours. Hugs.

    Have tons of fun!!!!!!

  4. I know you dread the flight, but how nice that you get to return and see friends. And, the blessing of having a honey who wants you with him, how sweet is that? I hope you enjoy each part of the journey ~

  5. Ha...I wish I could actually make a profit from sewing. I am sorry I don't have many ideas.

What type of tourism do they have? Would tote bags made of local fabric sell to tourists?
When I travel I always look for things made locally that are unique to the area. It helps if I actually see the person making something. (Then I know it was made there.)

  9. Wish I was there to attend your class on sewing for profit. Outsourcing of work is killing my job and with my husband's job situation I need the income. Besides, I love to sew and if I could do that and make money it would be a dream come true! Enjoy the trip and try not to spend away your retirement on those beautiful Samoan fabrics!!

  11. I'm so happy you get to go back and visit your friends in AS and enjoy all that is good in AS. I will be sending positive thoughts and prayers that you have a good and safe flight and a wonderful trip overall.

For items for profit, what about zippered bags, totes, placemats, small quilts, pencil rolls, coin purses, etc that can be made with beautiful fabrics in AS and sold for gifts? There are also many free patterns on Moda Bakeshop for small projects that might be useful too.

  26. I know there are so many friends who will be thrilled to see you when you get there.

Here is an idea....if you don't have time to stitch out those gifts and other things you want sewed before you go.....well...host a challenge. Get the rest of us to do your stitchin' for you!!! I'd gladly sent my stuff aside and sew something and ship it to AS for you. Not for anyone else...but for you....absolutely I'd do it. Why? In gratitude that I never had to get off a plane and ask strangers if they had ever see this woman after the tsunami you'll had. So, just delegate girlfriend!

    Hugs,
    Kelly

  29. I am so happy for you! How long will you be there? Be sure to take some hand stitching to work on while on the flight, plus a book to read and/or listen to. I hate long flights also & haven't been on an airplane for over 3 years. But now, one son has discount flight privileges for his parents and we are fixing to start doing some flying - not as far, though. Have a great time!
