This month's challenge is leaves.
So I got a fat quarter, folded it in half and went to town.
So....the one thing I hate to do is waste these sandwiches for the challenge, so I made a tank topper. A Fat quarter was not really long enough, but it works.
I was too lazy to put a binding on so I got my pinking shears and just pinked the edges and sewed a straight line around the outside of the topper about 1/2 inch in. There you have it.
Yes, I should have ironed it but I told you, I am being lazy.
Then I won this pattern and beautiful fabric from Shelley at Red Quilts....thanks so much Shelley.

The quilt is FABULOUS! Love the stitching, too. Very nice gifts to boot!

I bet you have the best dressed toilet tanks in town lol.
ReplyDeleteI think your tank topper turned out great. The leaves look good.
ReplyDeleteGreat job. I have to tell you...that little dish/basket on the back of the jon...I have one just like it. What do they say about great minds?
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the ivy leaves! I've joined this challenge too but haven't gotten to it yet. I'll do it this weekend and only hope I do half as well as you did!
ReplyDeleteI keep toying with the FM challenge. I can certainly use the practice!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to finish the heart quilt by Valentine's Day?
You beat me to it! I have a small project to finish before I get to mine. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb, so glad to have found you! I like your attitude with winding your own embroidery bobbins - I do that, too! Besides, one of the first prewound bobbins I bought wound up being knotted near the center and almost messed up my embroidery machine. Moral: WIND YOUR OWN - it's cheaper AND safer!

Great work on your FMQ challenge piece! I haven't gotten there yet...but I'm determined to do it!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood idea! When I took a machine quilting class I made tote bags. But, how many can you have. I need to make that big tote for totes.
ReplyDeleteQuick, easy and fun! Looks great Barb!
ReplyDeleteYour tank topper is lovely. Beautiful FMQ too!

Great idea Barb.
ReplyDeleteGood idea for a tank topper...I was just noticing the dust on mine this morning! :) I wanted to do this quilt along, but so far have been too lazy to get going...I certainly do need more practice with my fmq.
ReplyDeleteYour stitches look really nice, as does the tank topper. When I am caught up (don't laugh) I think I will make some for my house, too.
ReplyDeleteWow! That can't be your first try at FMQ, is it? By the way, do you use any different thread than what you usually do for piecing, etc?
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely Barb... great idea I'd say (not laziness) I can't believe how dusty the top of the loo gets :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love free motion. My favorite motif so far has been the big alligator I did on Ethan's quilt. All that thread-painting was a blast. I need to move past stippling more often. Maybe I'll take the FMQ challenge. 8)

Good for you to find a use for these practice pieces. I think you will come out at the top of the class in the FMQ Challenge. You have a knack for machine quilting in the first place :0)

Great little project to use fmq practice pieces, Barb. I love your quilt. It has been fun reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great idea to use fat quarters to practice with and make small projects with the practice pieces so you don't waste anything. Brilliant! Your leaves look great. I'm enjoying this FMQ challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour tank topper is so cute! I too couldn't just do a sample thingie! :)
ReplyDeleteI liked the pattern-what did you think?
