This tank looks so sad....
Oh yes....what a way to brighten up a bathroom.
This is what I submitted to Quick quilts and was told just recently that they had enough projects for 2012. In other words....bug off.
I came up with this idea during the summer and when the Ghastlies came about I made it up. I get a ton of compliments from friends visiting the Loo.
I took it a step further and made a lid topper. Oh yes...you say grosss....but not so Dear Watson..... Now this one does have elastic to keep it in place but...you can forgo the elastic and just use your glue gun and put a few drops (you don't need much) in just the right places to keep it in tact. It should pull off easily to wash and then glue back on.... EASY Can't you just see matching curtains, etc..... the possibilities are endless.
So....the age old question "To BE or Not To BE?".....

I will confess I was not too bummed about this not getting accepted, it just made me reevaluate what I am doing. It is not for the money because there is not much money to be had in submitting an article....it was just having my name on something. Oh well....
Now....I have several items I have been working on for a book "Thinking outside the box with the Accuquilt Go Cutter" .... the matter of consideration is...should I just finish what I have and submit it.....and go about my business, or just forget it all together? Should I stop the press and go full steam ahead or ....that is the question...or....or...or...
Now....when you see the tank topper, you see that it is similar to mug rugs, can you just imagine what you can do and put on these tank toppers? If you do want to make a topper, I will have a pattern at Inchworm Fabrics, not in her store yet. If you decide to go it without one, my hats off to you but please if you show it on your blog, could you give Bejeweled gal some credit for it?
> I wanted to mention that both items only takes 5 fat quarters, it doesn't get much better than that.

Love the yellow and black. I need a tank topper....just haven't gotten around to making one yet. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good idea hear, as so many of your projects are fun and practical. I bet many people out here could share rejection stories, so I'm voting for you to keep trying!
ReplyDelete:-}pokey
very cute...one for every season! And your tank does look much happier ! :)
ReplyDeleteThose tank toppers are fun!! I think I would throw mine in the washer with the towels each week...I like that idea!
ReplyDeleteMornin' Barb. WELL! I have only seen those "carpet type" tank toppers and lid covers in the store... oh, and that cut out rug that goes in front of the porcelain throne. :-/
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice alternative. Some homeowner's put a candle or a wooden box with chotchkies in it... or even a crocheted doily on the tank...
I say, "Go for it!" before someone else does it, makes a billion buck, retires and moves to the island of their choice!
Barb, you are so talented. Can't wait for the pattern to come out!!!
ReplyDeleteBarb, I love it! Geez, I can just see one for every month. You know me. LOL
ReplyDeleteSorry about not getting pubished. Great opportunity to publish it yourself and sell your own pattern. Go for it.
I say keep going for it! You'll do well with a book. Sorry they didn't accept this but I like what you've done with it. Our boy is home from his mission so I've lost my sewing room for another six months until Kaje' gets married the first part of June so no sewing for me for awhile. Right now Travis is here so it hasn't been too bad but he goes back to work next week and it will be full steam ahead with his friends (more so than now) so then I'm back to puttering the evening away by myself. It's okay though bz my kids are worth it.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and gold one with matching lid cover. It looks so classy. Maybe this will inspire me to redecorate my bathroom. I know I need new curtains in there.
ReplyDeleteVery happy tank. Don't give up; there are lots of other publications out there.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, that's so funny, a SAD toilet!
ReplyDeleteNothing ventured nothing gained as they say.... Go for it!Cute.
ReplyDeleteRemodeling and Redecorating our Bathrooms is on our agenda for 2012... I think I may have just discovered a great idea for the toilets...

very clever idea. I have a dual flush toilet with the button on top of the tank....i bet i could still make one with a hole in the top for the button though...hmmmmm..lol
ReplyDeleteI think this is a super idea , it sure brightens up the bathroom .I say go for it too!
ReplyDeleteI love the tank topper and I can see making one soon. You come up with the best ideas Barb I think that you should go a head and finish it. Now that Christmas is over people will be looking for ideas because they got the accuquilter for Christmas. I haven't had time to use mine yet but full speed ahead in New Year. Blessings Sandra
ReplyDeleteOh wow......I love this. Of course, I love off-the-wall projects anyway. How about a few 1" squares of velcro....sticky back on the lids, sew on applied to the backs of the mats? Gotta make some.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! Can't wait till your pattern posts! Will cheer up both of my bathrooms!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! Writers and designers get rejected several times before they get published. Keep trying! In the meantime, we get to benefit from all your great ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI do think these are so cute. Sorry the magazine didn't have room for this idea in any of their 2012 issues.

TOO COOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they are cute. Maybe try Quilts & More? They have quick little projects.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a fabulous idea!!! I can't believe it would not be accepted. I say try somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteThere must be other magazines you can submit to? Its a good idea and I have had a quilted piece of fabric on the top of my toilet tank since we moved here because it is an old toilet and the top is stained from what I have no idea but I couldnt stand it so covered it up with the quilted fabric. Each time I think about it a more sized one would be great. I like yours and they both are fab :) Do try another magazine. Maybe one of the mags here in Australia? I know Homemade is always looking for new designs. :) Hugs Vicki x
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly creative. It did brighten up the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects Barb... someone will pick them up...
ReplyDeleteHugz
I love your toppers! I've always just used a folded towel on the tank, but what a great idea to make a little quilt for it! :0)
ReplyDeleteI love it Barb...pretty creative....I also wanted to thank you so much for your wonderful gift of fabric!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so thrilled to get it and it means a lot to me....thank you for your kindness.....melinda
ReplyDeleteI made a TTT (toilet tank topper) some time last year for my bathroom and love it! Lately, I made one for the guest bathroom. When you love quilts, you just can't have too many of them, so you do get creative! I love yours! I think it's a great idea, so maybe another magazine will publish it. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteFull Steam Ahead! Your accuquilt projects are the best I have seen. You make a luxury seem like a necessity. I believe it would have a market.
ReplyDeleteI love it and say next time submit it to all the other magazines, too!
ReplyDeleteI think you should submit the book. After all, look what happened when I did that, with no serious expectation of it being taken up!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that they did not accept your creation. What a great idea for a housewarming gift. Do what Quilt Sue said. What can it hurt to try ???
ReplyDeleteYour idea of the tank topper is great! Yours is so neat. Go for your idea of the book---you have lots of wonderful ideas---go for it!!!!
