sent me these wonderful buttons and earrings.
Bad news is for some reason that one earring has been flipped over each time I go and retake this picture.....so I just gave up. Awesome earrings. Awesome Buttons. Thanks so much Jennifer.
So...the good news is that I was laying in bed this morning and I came up with a brilliant (even if I say so myself) idea to use those buttons.
Bad news is, I can not find the other buttons that Button Mad sent me.....I have searched high and low.
More bad news, they are with the buttons I had for my Be Attitudes quilt...and believe it or not, I was going to finish up the borders today and get it going.
Good news is....I had misplaced all of my coupons.....I found them...whohoooo I search and search for these buggers.
Bad news....they are all expired.....hummmmmmmm
More good news, I ordered these fabrics from my sister's store, Inchworm Fabrics, I ran out of this fabric a few post ago. Now I can get busy and finsh up this quilt.
Bad news....I have to go to JoAnn's (I know...I know...poor me) and get some fusible light pellon.....
I had the most wonderful friend come over yesterday (I have to say that because I think she is starting to read my blog...wink!! wink!!). She asked me what do I do with all of my quilts and why do I keep making them. She says she only does a quilt with a purpose. She knows exactly where it is going in her home and if she is making a present for someone.
So....I am asking all of you, why do you keep making quilts? What is your drive?
I know my answer. what is yours?
I have a poll going on the side bar (you can choose more than one answer), but would really love to hear more than a few words of why you quilt.
I voted, some quilts you just gotta do, but I do love the creativity!
ReplyDeleteHope you can wear those earrings without it flipping ~
:-}pokey
Hi Barb! I bought some buttons from those nice gals in Long Beach. I mentioned that I heard of them from you. They know exactly who you were. :) What a fabulous organization!!
ReplyDeleteI heard this on the radio one day. "Most of us die with the music still inside us". Quilting is the music inside me. It's something I have to do everyday. It soothes my soul during the worse of times, brings a smile to my face the best of times. Hugs
ReplyDeleteNice earrings and buttons.
ReplyDeleteI didn´t do many quilts but now I have three top done and they`re for my nieces and nephew.Hope it will have been finished the night before christmas.
I love do top quilt and I`m a little busy to finish a quilt
I am addicted for sure! I have to quilt every day...I love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Barb! Lovely lovely buttons!
ReplyDeleteI quilt to express my creativity and explore colour and texture - and of course to make lovely warm blankets! and cute little quilts to use for whatever... and I have no idea why the fabric just calls to me...
I voted on your poll. But one thing you left off was THERAPY ;-D
ReplyDeleteMy answer was all of the above. I do it for all those reasons and because I have all those reasons and more, I'll probably do it until I die. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I think all apply to me except boredom. So, I must be addicted.
ReplyDeleteKelly from I Have a Notion said....
ReplyDeleteyou can copy and paste this into your blog...I'd greatly appreciate it :) - is is a comment for todays post....still won't let me in...must be this laptop...go figure!
You are way tooooo funny girlfriend. Creativity is like madness...we misplace things and then get mad when we can't find them...happens to me all the time. Typically I find what I was looking for in my other hand!
Giggles,
Kelly
I actually could have voted several different ways. How cute are the buttons! I keep putting things up for safe keeping and then I can't remember where I put them so I have started writing my hiding spots down in my calendar.
ReplyDeleteI make them for my grandbabies and now my youngest daughter who will be getting married soon. I'm also making a memory quilt for my son so I have many projects going right now. I love to create and am sure the family will keep me busy. My oldest daughter got married before I started piecing so I'd love to make her a quilt in time too. I just love to sew, period! It rejuvenates me!
ReplyDeleteMostly I just love to play with matching different fabric patterns...it's so fun. I usually have a purpose for the quilt or I don't start one. Unless, I find just the perfect group of matching fabrics...they are everywhere! lol
ReplyDeleteMy missing stuff takes me days to find, I leave them in just the oddest spots and kinda' remember thinking at the time that it's not a good place to leave this. Still looking for my garage door opener!
Great buttons and earrings. Ask your friend if she would ask an artist why he paints, or a sculpter why he sculpts, a musician.....well you get the idea. I make quilts because I can and because I want to and because I enjoy it. If some of them have a purpose that is good, but they don't have to.
ReplyDeleteJust voted. Happy to see we are all nurturing our creative sides. Great earrings!
ReplyDeletelove those earrings!! hope you can find the buttons; I just found a bunch of coupons as well and mine were all expired too. at least I found out before I tried to use them like last time lol!
ReplyDeleteI am addicted to fabric. I am addicted to the feeling I get as something beautiful takes shape underneath my hands. I guess it is creative juices that I crave, but if seems like fabric fondling is front and center in there somewhere. Thanks for the great post and the poll. I think that 77% that said to create, are really in denial of their addiction. Just Kidding! Have a happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI quilt because I love the process.....and I just love making quilts.....I don't have to have a reason to make a quilt.....the more the merrier!
ReplyDeleteI quilt because I can. About half the time, I know what I am quilting and who it is for, even if the who is a charity.
ReplyDeleteThe other half the time, I have no idea what I am going to do with it once it is done. But I know that I will do something with it once it is finished. Sometimes I give them as gifts, sometimes someone sees it and claims it. As of right now, I don't have any unclaimed, or undesired quilts laying around, so I guess my methodology is working.
I promised my wife I will quit when I have more than one shelf full of quilts that are not being used. I did however reserve the right to donate anything not being used to clear space for more. As long as they are being used, I'll keep making them...

I have friends and family that continually ask me the same thing. For me it is truly a passion and an addiction. I have a driving NEED to do it. I love to create beautiful things and I don't care how many people ask me how many quilts I can possibly need, I will continue to do it until I can do it no more!=)
ReplyDeleteFor me it's the need to create something beautiful, give meaning to the fabric I see. Plus, it's good therapy. I need therapy!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I love to. I rarely have a purpose or person in mind. However, my mind can visualize the end result and that's what I'm going for. Besides, sewing and creating is relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a specific reason when I quilt someties it's the pattern that sets my imagination soaring and sometimes it's the fabric that just has to be made up into a quilt or a cushion....I just love to work with my hands and feel the fabric as I work with it.I just have to have something in my hands to work on it soothes my soul and settles me every time :) Barb.
ReplyDeleteI quilt because it makes me so happy, I love fabrics and finding the right pattern. On the flip side I quilt for everyone but me. I only have one quilt a sampler that I made at my first class. I love giving my quilts to others to show them how much I love them. I am finally doing a block of the month for me I hope.
ReplyDeleteI think your good out weighs the bad today :) I make quilts for my house and family members but after that I make quilts because I love the process. Maybe not making the binding but the rest I enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful and how sad LOL. Great gifts and love the fabric. I quilt because it is my addiction....even if I'm not quilting right now I still think about it all the time :0)

Love the earrings! Hope you find your buttons. I always lose things after I have tidied up and put things into safe places. Loved your little survey. I quilt because I can. I just love it. But where all that fabric comes from I'll never know. That's an addiction for sure!
ReplyDeletecute buttons Barb! I quilt because I love doing it. I can FIND a purpose for all the quilts I make.
ReplyDeleteI like Sandra's answer, I quilt because it makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is that my hands need something to do all the time and my brain wants it to be pretty and creative and fun with just a bit of a challenge. Quilting does all that for me.
I quilt because initially I cannot leave fabric alone, I like to keep my quilts sometimes a short while, sometimes forever
ReplyDeleteI'm sucked in by the FABRIC!! The colors, the designs, the feel!!! I buy it, and then I can't cut it, so I have to buy more that I don't want to cut, see the problem???
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about our buttons and earrings Barb...!
ReplyDeleteHave just started my first real quilt....a childrens quilt...so am new to this...but all the children have said ...me next please....so I have several to do before wondering what to do with them...wish I had had one as a child...they are all individual works of art made with love...can't really beat that...
And we have found that the quilting community is the most warm, welcoming, and generous one...can't beat that either....! Keep on quilting...
