Don't you just hate it when you think you have a great idea, but find out someone else has already thought of it?
That is the case with these vases. I used my flower die for the Go cutter to make the vase, thinking how clever I was. Come to find out Darlene mentioned on facebook that there was a video out showing how to make these. Oh well....what is that..."Great minds think alike!"
I made this block with the circle die and flower die. I have added more flowers to give it more balance but was tooo lazy to take another picture. You can look in the picture below. Oh...and these blocks need to be finished...in time...just thinking right now...
This is why I am making these blocks. This is a family Round Robin that we did a few years ago. I did the middle applique (see Crispy, I can do needle work). The rest with the exception of the blocks above were done by family members.
I pulled this out when I was pulling stuff out to work on but couldnt' decide....had it on the floor for a while, pulled it up...now it is back on the floor. Husband will be gone and I think this is where it will stay until I decide what to do with it. All the blocks do not have the same measurements..... So....I am in the thinking stage.....
My goal is to finish this RR and get it to the top stage.
Next goal is to finish the Jelly Roll quilt along and get it to the top stage. I don't have enough batting to complete these but soon, verys soon, I will not have a batting problem.
Right now, I am just thinking!
Well, I must say your "thinking" has giveen us some lovely blocks to look at.
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I saw the caption 'I was thinking' My mum bless her ( she is 97)used to say when we were kids "don,t think It makes your head swell"
ReplyDeleteNice sampler , nice colours---cottonreel
I have no doubt that you will reach your goals!
ReplyDeleteThe vase blocks look great! I actually have a vase quilt I am working on but it has detailed needleturned areas and it is kickin my u know what!
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and layout of your round robin.
I am with you on the RR. Worked on it before the baby, but need to think on one area. I had to fill a lot of space on mine and everyone had different sized blocks. I should sendyou apicture. Just not sure how to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI love your two types of vases. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in this top. I really love quilts that have different size blocks.
ReplyDeleteThinking is good. It gets us organized and prioritized for all that sewing we want to do.
ReplyDeleteLove the vases, even if it was done before, it was still an original idea to you and that's all that matters.

the video to make the vase out of that die is also on Accuquilt website
ReplyDeleteThinking does pose a problem. So much easier to just barrel ahead and get things done. However, that block in the lower right corner IS a problem. I'd just cut it down to size to make it fit. Your flower blocks are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter if someone else thought of it if you never saw the video. I saw the video and was amazed at the creativity that people are coming up with by using their dies in a different way. It doesn't surprise me that you thought out of the box and figured out a way to make a vase for the flowers ;) I think they look great. I keep coming back to the round one. I really like that one.
ReplyDeleteYour family RR is going to look great once you figure out the setting you like.
Oh I think you're very clever! These vases and flower blocks are terrific and they look great with the other family blocks. The setting will be great too. Hmm in my crystal ball I can see uneven sashing and/or sawtooth sashing in your future...can't wait to see if I'm right!
ReplyDeleteThe orange quilt is gorgeous and with that backing fabric it looks good enough to eat!!!
Lovely blocks. They will make a terrific quilt. Just add some fabric to make them all the same size.
ReplyDeleteI had a sixth grade teacher who always said "Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ." lol
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to come up with a novel idea anymore. It still looks great!
That's great! You are really getting a ton of use from your GO.
ReplyDeleteI really, really like that RR . Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteAll my great ideas are somebody else's old news. But I still love it when a plan comes together and your quilt is coming together wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks, Barb - how about just sashing them up to even them out? Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt -

Oh that is going to be such a happy quilt. I love it.
ReplyDeleteBarb,
ReplyDeletePut a strip around the largest block (I usually use 2 1/2" for the first block.
Then put a larger strip around another block of course, until you got the size of the first block. and (maybe you would have to cut it down to the size of the first block).
Continue going around all of your blocks with the same fabric until your blocks are all the size of the first one.
Then sew them altogether, and add a border. Top finished!
Happy Quilting!

I love all the blocks and the idea of a round robin!
ReplyDeleteIt should be a great quilt!

That GO cutter can do some really neat things. I can't imagine cutting those shapes so perfectly by hand. Very nice results, and yes, you can do needle-work -- very pretty center block (tulips are one of my favorites)!
ReplyDeleteI agree, you thought of this design with your own wonderful design sense....great minds do think alike :0)
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can see you did a beautiful job with your hand work LOL. I love the blocks your family made. How about making an attic window type sashing, in what ever sizes needed to make the blocks all fit?

I sent you a little sunshine. Go to my blog to check it out.

when I have blocks of varying sizes, I add sashing to each block, on all 4 sides or on 2 sides or at times only on 1 side. Depends on block measurements. Chose your fabrics to co-ordinate and no one will know that you didn't plan it that way.
