I made this Master's Graduation hood, never made one, never saw one up close but this is what the gal wanted. We can only hope!!
Next, I saw this quilt pattern....
In this quilt magazine.
Mine is made with six fat quarters and about 1 1/2 yards of white fabric. Mine is not as big as theirs and I have repeating patterns....but I love it.
I firmly believe that a person can make this quilt in a day. It took no time at all to do the strips. I just didn't have enough white fabric so I had to wait. Now to stipple it. Do I want to bend down on the floor and pin this puppy? Or do I want to wait until I get home?
These old bones just hate getting on all fours to pin a quilt....the creeking and popping that goes on....I make more noise than an unoiled screen door.
You did a good job on the master's hood....and the quilt is nice, too.
ReplyDeleteI saw that quilt, too. I'm all inspired. Love your interpretation. Great job.
ReplyDeleteLOL....I know the feeling!!!!!! I love the quilt - very clean and crisp!!!
ReplyDeleteA graduation hood? Never heard of or seen one before. Very interesting.
ahh...wait till you get home to quilt it. Take some time and DO be a bum for a bit. I think you deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI have the same magazine and have been thinking about doing it in some Kaffe fabrics that I have. I love the colors you chose.
ReplyDeleteBarb, your quilt is so cool...I love those colors! Know what you mean about getting down on the floor; I'm never sure if I'm gonna be able to get up again! :o)
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Cyndi
I love your version! It is so fresh and spring like.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could pin on the floor. UGH!! I vote you wait till you get home. LOL! I use the tables at the local quilt shop. Maybe there is a quilt shop by you that will let you use their table.
I don't know what that hood is all about, but it looks very nicely done! And I like your quilt, too. I'm thinking, though that a flimsy will be easier to transport than a full out quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a master's graduation hood used for? Oh that magazine is bad news it will put more creative ideas in a quilter's head than they will ever be able to make. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd there you go again - making us all look bad. A quilt top in a day? Not in any day I've ever lived haha. It's so pretty, Barb. I love it!
ReplyDeleteJust the thought of kneeling down to pin a quilt makes me creak. There has to be an easier way.
I hear ya!! I can't figure out how I can make all these noises that I never made before.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt, and with the fq's, how fantastic!!
Love your quilt and I can't get on the floor no more, my screen door would fall off the hinges. I put it on my cutting table now to pin.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Barb. Can you pin it on some kind of table? I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great! I love all the different variations on stacked coin quilts. They are fun to make plus a good way to use up bits of fabric...or a good reason to go out and buy more fabric lol.
ReplyDeleteI say take the top home with you. If you are just making for the thrill of making a quilt and it isn't for anyone in particular, then there is no hurry. Plus, now you can use the time to make another quilt top and no creaky bones.
Another busy day from you...enjoyed seeing your works of art!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know the feeling of being on all fours, and have started using my dining room table instead. Lovely quick quilt -- I can see why you love it!
ReplyDeleteI think the wavy stripe pieces make this quilt, It,s lovely .
ReplyDeleteRe,. getting up off the floor ,oh boy ! you should see me , I had a knee replacment just over 2 yrs,. ago . It is fantastic , I walk as normal after not being abe to walk at all due to arthritis , but I wouldn,t kneel on it so can you imagine trying to get off the floor--cottonreel
I like it! Maybe hire your son to baste it for you. It would be good "bonding" time.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think to bind it with?
know what you mean about bending down to do pinning...I have 3 tops waiting but have been putting them off...
ReplyDeleteI am with you there....no not on the floor if I can help it! lol Cute quilt, looks like a fun one to fill a day or two.
ReplyDeleteI agree Barb, crawling around on the floor is getting harder and harder! Please stop by my blog and vote for my friend. Have a great weekend!

Beautiful Barb! love the fabric and colours, nice easy pattern. Wait until you're home, enjoy this time with your family!
ReplyDeleteOh oh oh! I recognize two of the fabrics in your quilt! My buddy, Virginia, used both of them as sails in the group sailboat quilts we made. Here's the one with the black dots with the big orange dot - it's on the right side in the middle row:

The wavy stripes fabric looks mighty familiar too, though perhaps a different color way? Anyway, it ended up on the other sailboat quilt so I can't be sure. Love that fabric and your quilt. 8)
Happy stitching,
Susan
Lovely quilt and so quick too! I have never been able to make a quilt in a day. As for pinning on the floor...I'd never be able to get back up. What is the graduation hood for?
ReplyDeleteI like your take on the quilt. Looks good. I can't do a quilt top in a day, and neither do I work on the floor any more, although I keep trying. I'm with Gene, take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and it does look easy to make. The graduation hood looks pretty, but I have never heard about it.
ReplyDeleteWillow
Barb, you're quilt is lovely, especially with the gorgeous colors and fabrics you chose to use. As far as getting on the floor to pin baste goes...I do it but view it as a very strenuous workout! lol
ReplyDeleteI made my son's graduation hood as well. Love your new quilt. From my point of view and speaking about myself - old age doesn't come on its own!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cute quilt. I think you could really change up the way it looks with your fabric choices. I really like the ones you've picked.
ReplyDeleteOh, I have that mag with THAT pattern marked! Hope you are feeling better, too... take it easy!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the quilt, it looks great! I've been thinking of doing that one as well!
ReplyDeleteI have that same magazine and haven't been able to find time to turn a page in it. You did a good job on the blanket. One day you say? Going to have to give it a try when school lets out.
ReplyDelete~Tootles!
I like the fabric with the curvy lines.
