oH MY GOODNESS......I am in love (yes....again...I fall in and out of love so often, how will I ever know the real deal)?
So you are asking, what is she in love with now.....it is this!!!
Oh yes....just a few minutes compared to an hour of pinning.....sore fingers....yes...I am in love.
You can get the basting gun here. My new best friend Kelly has different varieties....so talk about having a hard choice....yep.....trust me....try it just once and you will never go back to pins.... Thanks Kelly for helping me out, you know, she drops everything to help me...I know she is sick of me but what are best friends for? They love you when you are good and they love you when you are a nausiance.
Thanks to my friend Krista for hooking me up with this baby...
I just love to hear you swooning over the gadgets Barb, I'm the same when I find one that makes quilting easier.
ReplyDeleteBarb I almost got one a few years ago. Glad you like it
ReplyDeleteI always wondered if the basting gun was any good and now I know. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteBarb, I have a gun and as soon as I decide on a backing for my signature quilt I will be using that puppy to baste it! Yaaay. Since you AND Tonya both said how great it is, I can hardly wait.
ReplyDeleteInteresting and how hard are they to remove?? What is the cost? I know I get tired of pinning and sometimes I put it off just for that reason..
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it.

Okay...lots of questions........How do you keep your fabrics (top, batting, and backing) pulled tightly enough when using this basting gun so they don't get wrinkles in them? (I usually tape mine to the kitchen table or island or the floor if the quilt is too big for the other two places...and that way the fabric is nicely stretched.) And......do you have to pull them out as you do quilting near to each fastener? (I would imagine you must have to do that...same as you do with pins....so you don't sew over them.) Inquiring minds want/NEED to know....
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering how those basting guns worked. Did you use that mat/grid under your quilt or just lay it out on the floor/table?
ReplyDeleteI got one of these a while back. It was a cheep one and didn't work that well. I need to check this out and try again. I'm sure it would be much better than so many pins.
ReplyDeleteI just pinned a quilt last night and yes my fingers hurt and I do not care for the basting spray. This might me what I try next!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you like the basting gun. I'll have to give it a try!

I assume this is the same method you see in the stores for putting tags on clothes.... If so, aren't you worried about the little holes that it puts in the fabric? I see there is a needle there, would that mean that you just have to change the needle out to keep it from making too big a hole? I have to tell you it is interesting.
ReplyDeleteI like it too, I've even bought another one. My first one jammed and tj broke it trying to fix it, so I'm on #2. I use red "tags" so they are easy to find, unless i sew a red quilt. lol How far apart do you tag, or is it just random.
ReplyDeleteI have used this gun before.... but only on a couple of quilts.
ReplyDeleteI found getting them out of the quilt afterwards to be a headache.
Let me know how you do...

You have never ever been a pain. I learn a lot from you and enjoy your blog :)

Love is so fickle ! Have fun with your new toy .
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing... I must give it a try!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!!!!!!! Barb, I am going to get one of these! I spray baste now and even though it is fabulous on warm and natural, it doesn't work on poly battings.
ReplyDeleteLove it love it and you too for posting this!
It was that easy eh? Can't wait.
I'm ordering one today!
Maybe I should try mine again. I wasn't happy with it the first time I used it and haven't used it since.
ReplyDeleteI love your jelly roll quilt that you did....and the cute giraffe!!!
Hey Barb, I love my gun for only quilts I put on the machine. They are pain in the neck for hand quilting quilts because your thread keeps getting stuck on one when you are pulling your threads through. So, I am not thrilled about them because they are annoying and get in the way. Plus, I tend to place a pin and then have to re-place it and fix a wrinkle but with the gun, the tags have to be cut out and replaced. Sorry, not a fan and don't use them anymore. Steph
ReplyDeleteI bought one of those basting guns many years ago. I have never used it. I break at least two nails every time I pin baste a quilt, but that still hasn't convinced me to try it. I thought I needed some sort of plastic 'thingy' to go under the quilt in order to use the gun. How do you use yours?
