Now I am going to show you mine.
This is what it looks like now.... this is my thread in waiting. A sweet sweet friend made this pin cushion (did I say how much I love it???).
It usually sits beside my machine but I was too lazy to clean to take this picture. I do not have a large cone holder for either one of my machines and well....a gal has gotta do what a gal's gotta do.

This works perfectly and after seeing "Walks in the Woods" post, I think I am going to use this for my embroidery threads because sometimes they get tangled up on the spindle that holds the spool and the thread breaks.....thanks Freida....

Your "thread in waiting" ... I love that! Clever idea! :)
It always works for me too! That is a cute pincusion and Walks In The Woods really does do some beautiful work with thread!
Love this idea, Barb. The pin cushion is darling.

ooooooooooh - what a good idea! How come I never thought of that? So glad you shared. :)
I need to try that. It's really a pretty mug, too!
Catching up again!!! I think the cup is a great idea for the thread.
Your Sunkissed tumbler quilt is really wonderful. I love the soft colors.
Your heart runner is GORGEOUS!!!!
Recently took a machine quilting class from Cindy Needham. She also uses this from time to time and refers to it as a "red neck thread holder".
cute and clever!!
Great thread holder.
Such a great idea!!!! My sewing machine doesn't hold the big cones, so that would be perfect!!!
I like it. I put mine in a mason jar or a tall cup too. It works great and is cheap.
Great idea!
I like this idea! and the spool does not fly out? I am sooo going to try this, now what mug to use.....
Very cute!
Lovely Thread Holder and lovely Pincushion. Why not use what you have on hand anyway? Great idea.
love your thread holder.Nola
Okay, I thought I was the only one..... love your thread holder... got a chuckle out of it.
I should show you mine... I made it from a piece of wood and a wire coat hanger! It works great.
That's cute. :) I am using a large, longarm cone on my sewing machine right now because it was the right color. I had to finagle routing the thread so that the cone can sit on the desk.
My spools of thread are going to get a complex seeing your "big" spool of thread. Cups work great as thread holders too.
I also enjoy Walk in the Woods.
Happy quilting.

I have a cup just like this! Goodness, never thought of it as a thread holder!
Barb, thank you so much...I received a large spool and was trying to figure out how to arrange things so that I could get some use out of it! LOL And your cup is pretty, besides! Going to raid my cupboard,now.... :)
How cute!
