Sharon Schamber's has a wonderful video on how to use Elmer's glue to get the perfect binding, I found her through Jane's Fabrics......

it took me a lot longer than normal and it is not perfect....
I know, suppose to be perfect but well....
some of us are not able to achieve it right out of the stall, least ways I have never had such an experience, I am a slow learner.....
but.....I am pleased as punch...tropical punch to be exact!!
I am actually binding another quilt but well...I am quitting for the night.

I've tried Sharon's binding method too. It is a bit too labor intensive for me for "regular" quilts. If I do a show quilt though I will definitely practice and do it on that one. They are wonderful videos!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty, & Tropical Punch is the perfect way to describe it. I think it looks great. I figure all my quilts are practice pieces!! The only size I can usually do is small quilts. I haven't gotten the courage up to try any thing larger. I don't think I could control it!! It would end up on the floor, the sewing table, my lap and who knows where else.

ReplyDeletePretty! I haven't tried glue with binding yet. Maybe I'll do that with my Glacial Star later in the year. . . For "normal" quilts, the coolest tip I picked up from someone last summer is SIMPLE and makes a huge difference on my binding. I like bias bindings, and you know how they stretch and slip while you're stitching - well, to solve this, just use spray starch on the inside when you are pressing the binding in half - it "glues" the two layers together! It's awesome. And fast.

ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing the video. I have never heard of using glue, but I am a newbie too, just learning about everything when it comes to quilting.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the glue tip. Sharon also has a way to baste your quilts using two long boards - one to roll your top on and the other to roll your backing on. It is so easy and no wrinkles on the back!! One of our quilt members demonstrated it at our last retreat and it works like a charm. Check out Sharon's tutorial on that one if you like :o)

ReplyDeleteBarb, I have to tell you, I think your blog has changed my life! I watched those Sharon Schamber's videos and cannot wait to try her method. Binding was always my least favorite quilting task, and her way actually looks like fun!!! It will be so nice to get such excellent results too. And no more being poked by pins. Yippee! Thanks SO MUCH for sharing these videos. I've already bought my washable glue and I'm planning to teach the method to my fellow Blanketeers too. 8)
