!PICKING AND A GRINNING

I look forward to berry season all year.  First the dew berries and then comes the blackberries.  A lot of the time it is too hot to pick the blackberries and by that time chiggers are out.

I even emptied out all the berries from my freezer from last year (a few happy friends), getting ready for new ones.

So this morning I decided to go and check on them.

I could not believe they are ripe already!!

This is what I got this morning.

My husband was getting ready to go somewhere and I asked if I had time to pick a few berries.  Thinking that there would not be many.

Oh my gosh...

Oh my gosh!!!

If I had my rubber boots on, I would still be out there picking.

Oh happy Day.

Needless to say I didn't get to go with my husband, got a phone call and had to rush out to take my mother to a Dr. Appt.  Two and a half hours later I am home and now

I don't feel like doing one single thing.!

LAZY ME!!

Our dew berries are beautiful right now, also. We've picked berries twice this weekend. The first batch went into an Easter cobbler (and is all gone) but the second one will go into the freezer. Our youngest picked berries for that cobbler but wasn't able to stay till it was ready, so I'm going to make one the next time they come to visit. While picking this morning, I saw a big patch of black berries that are going to be ready in a week or so. I can't wait!

Our longtime Pinelands farming neighbor grows blackberries, her specialty. So I leave the growing and harvesting to her. I just frequently go to her stand to buy things. It's not warm enough here in NJ, won't even have blueberries until July. Enjoy!

I've never heard of dew berries so I had to go look them up. They look like a blackberry. I love picking them too and they make great homemade jelly!

Yummy. So happy to hear berry season has arrived for you. I love, love, love fresh berries. And enjoy picking them too! Wish I could go on a walk with you to help pick, and chat along the way. Would be fun.

Lol....when I saw your post title the first thing I thought was having to use the seam ripper! I spent some time with mine last night...hehe. I never knew about dew berries til I lived in Central Texas and now living in West Texas I don't see them here. I do have a mulberry tree though and I enjoy watching those silly grackles pick them. They will take them to the bird bath and dip them in the water before swallowing....cracks me up!
