LIFE IS A WHIZZING BY!!!

I don’t know about any of you but Sunday comes and Sunday goes.  Why I mention Sunday?  That is  the only day I know for sure is Sunday, during the week it is “What day is it?”

I kept meaning to show more pictures of my attic finds, this ironing board is one of them.  My eyes popped out of their head when I saw this.  The cover was so rotten and nasty that it had to be
thrown away.

We are having company today through the week-end.  A young family and four kids.  Oh yes, all you grandmas out there…eat your hearts out!!!  I am a gonna have me some babies in my house.

I call them my kids but have never met them.  My son mentioned that fact.  The young man is a friend of my sons from way way back, he is brining his wife whom I have met through facebook.  I feel like I know her and well….

I made 3 quillows and one self binding blanket.  I am ashamed to say that I did a terrible job on the self binding quilt.

There has been so much going on this week that just getting these made has been a triumph.  So my reasoning is the baby is only going to pee, poop, and throw up on it.  Gross huh???  sorry (not really).

I went and brought lots of fruit, fruit drinks with little sugar in it, animal crackers, and anything else I could think of.  Here I was in the store looking at labels trying to get healthy snacks I can spoil them on.

Maybe one or two of you are wondering why I didn’t make the baby a quillow.  I did have the fabric but…I read that babies might get their heads caught in the pillow so I opted out of making him one.

                             CONFESSION TIME!!!

Now is confession time.  I didn’t have any children fabrics so I went with my husband and we chose the children's fabric.  I told him that I could probably find backing fabric in my fabrics.

Oh my stinking gosh, WHAT WAS I THINKING?   I wish I had just purchased some backing fabric.  Hunting through boxes, bags, drawers….what a frustration.  In all that frustration I found the backing fabrics in the fabrics purchased before New Years.  Didn’t have to go far but made a mountain out of a mole hill here.

So……………………. old old Bejeweled purchased some fabric.   Hand is slapped and I am back on track.

Now it will be a mad dash cleaning up this house and getting it somewhat baby proofed.

Hi Barb,
The quillows are lovely. They will be so thrilled to get one with their name on it. I'm sure you'll all have a terrific time. I think you can be forgiven for an important "Emergency" fabric purchase. I've got you beat anyway, I bought a WHOLE BOLT of muslin yesterday - 27 yards!!!

Take care and enjoy the "grandkids",
Susan in Texas

You don't have kids-themed fabrics? What a good problem to have... :) Now, you will have the perfect excuse to go buy fabrics whenever you fell like it... it's for the children, don't you know? :)

Thanks for visiting. So good to hear from you. Happy belated New Year!

I had one of those ironing boards, years ago I stapled all my vintage crochet dress/overalls pot holders to it! Bonnie Hunter shows one on her blog today in an antique store.
Have fun spoiling those kids!

Is that a wooden ironing board? Lucky!!! Yes, I consider the three "Ps" for baby quilts (or blankets). They are going to Pee on it, Poop on it, or Puke on it.

ha, ha, I know the feeling Barb. Even with a big stash, I never seem to have the "right" fabric I need. Even for a backing ;-)

Barb sounds like you are going to have yourself some fun. How long will they stay?

Yay! for having children come to visit you! The ironing board is another great find! What great gifts you have made for them...like you I would have opted out of making a quillow for the the baby.

It sounds as though you are prepared for a wonderful time. Babies are wonderful. It doesn't matter whether they are your own or not.

You are going to have a blast with the little ones and it sounds like you are going to be spoiling like a proper grandma! They will love their very own blankets.

Enjoy the company.

Always special to have a baby around, as well as little ones. I bet they are certainly going to enjoy those quillows, as well as all the extra kiddie treats you picked up. But mostly, I think they are just going to enjoy having a getaway and coming to enjoy time with you and your family in your new home.Enjoy!

PS - Thanks for the insight about babies and baby quillows. I had never heard of that, but it makes sense and I defer to being the safest we can be, especially when dealing with young lives.

You did yourself proud--Thomas the Train, Green Lantern, and Tinkerbell--I'm impressed. And I love the way you embroidered their names. Now, I'm going to have to make some quillows--what a great idea.

You are so sweet to do this for a family you don't really know. I hope everyone -and especially Barb- has a wonderful time.
I don't count it as "buying fabric" if it is for something I make immediately and had to have to make it like you did. I just am not as productive. LOL

How fun for you. Not the house cleaning but the company;)

I just went through a box and slapped myself against the side of my head, so know what you mean. Difference is, my box was sitting right beside me. Hmmmm. Did you enjoy the visit?
