EDUCATION IN "HEAT N BOND" - THERM-O-WEB ADHESIVES

In my quest for finding another source of fabric adhesive since the JoAnn's here was sparse on the Steam A Seam

I wrote two previous articles here and here

During which time Julia from "Heat n Bond"  had sent me the following items to try out.

I have to admit that I have been so busy that I have not been able to try out much except for the
Heat n Bond iron on fusible which I had purchased in my quest.

I also have to say that my eyes bugged out of my head when she sent me to this website.

  You can call it ignorance,

a gal having her blinders on

whatever but I truly did not know that "Heat n Bond" had so many items that would make a quilters life so much easier.

I looked through the website with a drool rag.

So let's take a look at some of the things that were sent to me.

Three different fusibles.....for three different abilities.

Like I had mentioned, I am mostly in for applique and what fusible is best for me and I have found that I do like the "Heat n Bond" lite for that purpose.  I have used it in several projects since first posting about it.

Fusible fleece and Sew in Fleece....wonderful for those of us who make totes

Sew in interfacing and batting tape.

To be honest I have not heard of batting tape (or were my blinders on)....and it is for piecing your batting together for small or large quilts.  Great use of your batting scraps.  I won't tell you how I put my batting together....trust me it is more time consuming than using this tape.

Adhesive by the yard, this is lite.    I usually don't by fabric adhesive by the yard and I am asking myself, WHY NOT?  I saw a lady buying some the other day, is it cheaper?  You can buy it in the rolls as seen in this picture but never dawned on me to buy it by the yard.

I do remember using iron on vinyl in Samoa and had it shipped in but for the life of me can not figure out where I got it or what brand.  Oh well....my son lifts weights and needs a bag for his chalk....so I think this will work perfect (more on this later).

Then two brochures on the products themselves and what they can do.  This is so valuable to me because I NEVER KNEW!!!  And now I do....

So Thank you Julia in helping with my quest to find a fabric fusible that will do what I want it to.  As you can see here, there are many options....and many items that go beyond the fusibles.

Finished the octopus and I used Heat n Bond lite on it, except for the" G".  I used Steam A seam, it was easy to reverse the "G" that way.

Would any of you like to try the Heat N bond lite or heavy?  I will send one person a yard each and I just might throw in a half yard of vinyl....just leave a comment.

I would love to try the Heat N Bond lite. As I remember the "heavy" is not sewable and I bought it by mistake once.....which is why I have never tried any of their other products. I didn't have a clue that they make fusible fleece. I use it for some of my art quilts. I will have to compare the price on it with what I am currently using.

I have a cute pattern for a travel bag using vinyl that I am dying to make. I could sure use the vinyl for that. I also have been trying my hand at bags and fabric baskets. I have not tried much applique yet but the Heat N bond lite sounds like it would be good for that. Thanks for all the info. I too am light on knowledge when it comes to fusibles.

Thanks for the review...I am always overwhelmed by the different options, and have, more than once, picked up the wrong choice! Need to pay more attention!

I'd love to try some but I don't know if you want to ship to the UK???

Since I have started quilting, I have found so many options to do applique. I enjoyed your review, would love to try options. Never tried making anything vinyl.

I love the Heat n Bond products! It's my go-to product for applique usually, when I can find it. It has become scarce at our Joanns here in TN. I've never tried the vinyl - that would be fun!!!

I haven't found a heavy fusible that I like. Been wanting to try the batting tape because whenever I zigzag them together, it always seems to bunch up at the seam.

I love Heat and bond, but I also love steam a seam. I use both. And batting tape is amazing. I use it all the time. Thanks for doing this for us. Now here is my question. How do they wash, does one stay on better. I use them for wall hangings but never for quilts so they do not get washed as much as a quilt would.

The iron on vinyl is great for lining thread bags. It is so much easier to clean all the threads out.

What a fun post. I have some of most of the products in my drawer. I even have the tape for the batting. I haven't tried it yet, because I rarely get that far on my UFOs.....giggle. I loved the part about the drool rag.........you made me laugh today and made me a little smarter...thanks.

I would love to try the heat n bond lite. I have been asking around about this for applique also. that batting tape sounds interesting to and the fusible batting. Thats new to me also. the vinyl is also new to me.....I'm gonna go check that website out to get educated.

I have never tried any of the Heat and Bond fabrics. I had no clue that they made such a variety. I have used Steam a seam light for applique. I have bought Pellon fusible fleece to use when making a tote. I guess I have had blinders on too.

I'm a new quilter and some of the patterns asked for Lite Heat n Bond. I don't know anything else and I really like it. I also have used the roll of batting tape and it is very easy to use. Don't know what the vinyl is for.

Heat and bond is the only adhesive that I've ever used. I've only tried the light, so I would love to try their other products. Great review.

Hmm, I just went to my local JoAnn's for some Steam a Seam and it looks like they no longer Cary it. I guess I will have to source it online as my LQS also does not carry it. What a pain!

Don't include me in the giveaway, but I wanted to mention that I use the batting tape and like it very much. It takes no time to press the pieces together and not much heat is needed. I prefer it to my zigzagging.

I prefer Heat n Bond Lite to anything else!! It is light weight and does the job for applique and Wool Work...and yes I buy it by the yard. Usually 5 yd lengths because I hate to run out! I store it in a plastic bag and it will stay 'fresh' forever...LOVE it!!

Not to include me as I avoid these products like the plague. BUT, I know they can be worth their weight in gold in the right hands. They just aren't my hands! Congratulations on making them sing and dance for you

I would like to try the lite. I have tried the heavy . I like it but its very hard to quilt on top of. Maybe with the lite it will be easier. Thanks for the chance

I'd love to try the Heat N' Bond lite. My LQS told me Steam A Seam is having issues and nobody can really get it right now. She said they don't know when it will be available again. Boo. But maybe this is an option? Thanks for the great info.

I would love to try the lite. My LQS told me steam a seam is having some issues and it is not available to anyone right now. This could be a good fix though.

Thanks for a super review! I need to get some of that iron on vinyl....I have several projects that I have not done, because of my ignorance of what is out there for me! LOL I've got blinders on, too, I guess! :)

I just want to say I'm a great fan of the heat n bond featherlite, as it's easy to work with and it doesn't gum up the needle. With four layers on top I can even meander without breaking a thread, I love it!
