HOW MANY OF YOU LIKE PREP WORK?

Sometimes I think I actually like prep work but it seems that it takes so much longer than actually doing the project.

I have prepped some more of those snap bag and key fobs to match....  Do you like prep work?

I had actually made six snap bags and fobs to match and a friend wanted them.

My sister Jeanette took seven of the first batch.

Hummmmmmm I see a pattern here? (no pun on the pattern)

A while back I made six of these runners, I got them ready to quilt yesterday.

New Tree of Life taking shape.....remember...this is not finished, it is in a rough form....and probably will not look like this when I actually get urrrrrr done...if I ever get urrrr done.

Also....the colors are so different than what you are seeing here.  I also think it is a good idea to take a picture of the projects you are working on because I can see here that I need to change some things up....nothing is ironed down....the tree base is the only thing that is attached so far.

Just on a second note...  Sew Cal is doing a designer showcase and today she has showcased me.

I am excited but embarrassed too....so if you want to hop on over there and check out her post, please do.  I am looking forward to other designers that she showcases in the future.

I need my husband...he is my advisor when it comes to projects like the Tree of Life.....I think he should quilt his job and just be here when I need him......what do ya think?   How dare he try to put more fabric in my bins, needles in my pincushions and most importantly food on the table.

For me the hardest part is picking colors. I usually ask my daughter to help. I am just not great at that part. I just want to quilt!

I definitely agree...he should still be able to put food on the table and quit his job so he can help you out. The problem may come in when dinner is roadkill...LOL.

Photos of projects are a must for me, I always see something different that I didn't see before. Great tip.

I'm hoppin' over to SewCalGals' blog now...I'm excited and glad you are being featured!

Smiles,
Kelly

LOL, Barb you are too funny. To answer your question about prep work.....NO an Yes.
No, I don't do prep work other than pulling out my entire stash and Yes, I do prep work only when working on quilts like log cabins, pineapples, etc. Things that need a lot of cutting in advance.

Love your Tree of Life. It is amazing.

I do "prep" work quite often and then sit and sew for a few days - like I've been doing lately. I enjoy the prep, I enjoy the sewing, I enjoy the entire process

I kind of like prep work. It's the big build up to the project you are chomping at the bit to do. (Plus, I take a good number of workshops and classes, and I need projects kitted that I can travel with, so it's just part of my normal routine.
Congrats on the blog feature.

Barb, great job!! You have created so many neat patterns. I had not realized it. I'm like you. I prep a lot of things at one time, then I can spend my time sewing! I don't have to stop and start, I like to do that.

Prep work is my worst - I have a terrible inertia when it comes to cutting fabric and even though I have the project lined up and am desperate to give it a try, it can take me ages (days!) to get up the courage to actually start cutting the fabric - I don't know if this is through inexperience - maybe it'll get easier with time. Like you I often find it takes longer than sewing the project up!
Oh and I loved your showcase on SewCalGal

The Tree of Life is going to be lovely!

The trouble with prepping several of the same thing for me is that I get bored and end up only making say 3 instead of the 6 I've prepped!

Congrats on being featured by SewCalGal.

I really DO like prep work. It makes everything else seem to go fast. I have a cutting table near my TV and watch it while I do my prep and then the next day I'm ready to go. Love your projects.

Hi Barb, I really think you deserve the honor, you make so many lovely projects . I think your husband should stay home and be your assistant that way you can work more. Does he cook because my husband doesn't.lol Enjoy your time in the sun and I really hate the prep work except for picking fabric I cando that for hours.
