HAWAIIAN APPLIQUE

Third time is a charm....so you all know I messed up the first time...the second time I did not have a big enough background piece. Sheweeeeee

Now don't go and critized how I have it basted down.....it is what it is...

So.....my husband and sons go to a movie...I stayed in the hotel.....still feeling pretty bad and so...I thought I would applique.....NOT!!!! Doing such a poor job, I emailed Chris from Crispy Quilts begging for help...how pathetic is that....yes...begging. My points are horrible....and one is frayed.

She came to the rescue and apologized for not answering sooner....now for all of you out there...when I email you and am begging for help...you need to be there for me.....I need to have your phone numbers so I can call....maybe we can set up a quilting emergency site QES and have a 24 hour service.....what I am trying to say...is...I was so grateful when she did answer....did I expect her to answer me NOW!!! It would have been nice but unrealistic...but she is so sweet to have said that and so.....(making this longer than it should be)....I quit!!! Yep....stopped working on it. She did give me a wonderful site to go to infact this person is on my blog list "Quiltsalot" go there for you applique needs...she has some great tutorials.

I will pick it up again, maybe later today???

Thanks for your help Chris.... What wonderful bloggers you all are, I know where to go for help...each of you are so diverse in your fields and so wonderful at what you do, if you don't know the answer you go out of your way to find it. There is no place I would rather be than among such wonderful talented people, sometimes I feel like I don't belong among such talent and greatness but you don't see me backing out??? Thanks to all of you....whether I am having a bad day, bad week, suffering silently, or jumping up and down...all of you are jumping with me. Thanks.....so much for the jump!! You all are soooooooooooooooooooo awesome and I truly appreciate each one of you. If you don't know who you are...just look on my blog list.

If you are not on my blog list....let us get you there!!

PS>>>>MY HUSBAND IS DOING THE LAUNDRY....YEPEEEEEE....he never does laundry but has been since on vacation...I think he is worried about me...one for being sick for so long...and two...he is worried I might stay here and not return with him.....

Glad you made it on the 3rd go-round & love your fabric choice! Is that a honu (turtle) pattern?
I love doing Hawaiian quilting while watching TV & always have one going on. So far I have stuck to pillow size-not sure I could handle a full size quilt!
Aloha!

I have always loved the Hawaiian quilts, but there is a tremendous amount of applique involved.

Fellow bloggers are awesome. Yes, they are a group of fabulously talented and willing to share group of people!!!! I love blogging for all the inspiration out there.

Hope you are feeling better soon, Barb. Of course one could not be sick in a better location!

The Hawaiian piece is going to be beautiful. I have always wanted to learn needleturn applique' and reverse but I need someone who I can watch. Sounds like you are feeling a wee bit better and I'm so glad. I think the idea of an emergency site is a great idea. Did you check youtube for a video to teach you how to do the hand applique'?

I love the look of Hawaiian applique, but my skills are really lacking in that area. I can do small, simple shapes, and that's about it. I'll be looking for how yours turns out. And you're right - blogging friends are just the greatest!

I just tried my first applique by hand - ha what a joke that was. I have much practice time ahead and I'm going straight away to quiltsalot for info.

The beauty of this wonderful craft is that no one says we HAVE to finish! If it's enjoyable, keep going... if it not? Well, just add it to the UFO pile and carry on! Love that hubby is doing laundry. Good times.

Very pretty-applque is not my favorite thing to do. I started the Bunny Hill patterns and am far behind but will catch up when we have a blizzard. Marry Christmas to you and your family.

Oh Barb , I really hope you are feeling better ! Thankyou for your friendship this year and have a great Christmas !

I think you picked a challenging pattern to start with! Something with gentler curves would be easier. But best of luck with it if you keep going. :)

I love that shade of green, and I do hope you feel better quickly..

I fell in love with Hawaiian quilts long before I started quilting. Maybe I will try my hand at a small one next year.

Hubbies don't like when we are sick. They get a bit nervous lol. Hope you start feeling better soon.

I love all the generous bloggers out there! I know what you mean about wishing for an answer right now! We know it is unrealistic but we can always hope :)

I know you will pick this up again Barb. Once you get the hang of it, you will love it, then maybe you can make that Autumn Houses pattern.

I will stick to piecing. LOL. And if I do applique it will be EASY shapes.
But, it is good to know where to get help if needed. Thanks.

Send the hubby over here, I could use some housework help. HA HA.

I'd be happy to give you my home # and I can probably email you some photos and possibly some more info electronically.

My apologies, if I' wrong. But is this your first applique project or first Hawaiian applique?

This design may be a difficult project for "first", but go for it - just realize you have one that is more challenging.

Plus, as previously mentioned, sometimes having it in a frame is easier. I find doing great points (and sharp innies) much easier in a frame.

LOL, I did feel bad not getting back to you sooner but I had really cut back on my computer time so that I could actually get some sewing done. I know what it's like to have a question and not have someone to answer me RIGHT NOW!!! ROFL

Barb, there is a dvd by the Piece o' cake gals that is WONDERFUL. It's called Becky Goldsmith & Linda Jenkins Teach You to Applique the Piece O' Cake Way, it takes you through every part of applique with close ups and everything. You can keep going back to each part until you get it mastered....just a suggestions for those like me that needs visuals :0)

Ok, this is a really long comment, I'll stop now :o)

Pretty fabric for the block Barb. I don't do needle turn, but I do love the Hawaiian blocks. I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

I really hope that you are feeling better soon. But if it means getting out of doing the laundry, then make it last as long as possible. I did a Hawaiian block in the first year I started quilting. I think I need to do another one now.

You're right Chris is so helpful and most everyone else in blogland also. I hope you get back to sewing that beautiful piece soon. Get well and take care of you.

You are braver than I.......you'd not see me even TRYING Hawaiian applique. I think you'll end up being a whiz at it before long, though...as you seem to master everything your try...eventually!

I want to do a Hawaiian quilt one day too. Good luck on it. Crispy is a fine one to ask for pointers - we have been on-line buddies for some time and she is one of the greatest. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Have you looked at back-basting as a technique? It makes for some fabulously accurate placement.
Hope you feel better soon!

I love the fabric you have chosen. I'm interested in hearing further about your applique "adventures". It's something I need to learn more about.

Feel better soon!
